... is there software to do this yourself?

Windows Movie Maker. You might have it already tucked away in the windows add-ons somewhere.

Not quite as easy but very effective and can be transferred onto disc.

You can download the onetruemedia ones to your desktop so you can watch offline, but you can't copy them.

SoupDragon · 16/07/2006 21:39

bump - StGeorge, you're bound to know the answer to this

SoupDragon · 16/07/2006 21:40

pmsl!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 16/07/2006 21:40

Don't you need to pay for the onetruemedia download facility though?

Read your own threads before you bump them you mad woman

You can download montages that are on your account - sign in, click on the montage as if going to edit it. There is an option to download to IPod or Quicktime player. If you haven't got Quicktime you can download a free version.

SaintGeorge · 16/07/2006 21:51

You have to pay to get the DVDs from them but a download to your own PC is free.

FrannyandZooey · 16/07/2006 22:00

St George - where is that option, please, to download the montage to Quicktime on your own pc? I am on the 'edit' page but can't spot anything likely.

SaintGeorge · 16/07/2006 22:05

If you click on the montage from your home page it should bring up the preview page.

Your montage should be on the left and a list of options to the right.

Download is 4th one down, (3rd of the orange coloured ones)

SaintGeorge · 16/07/2006 22:06

Apologies - I have just tried it and they have changed it. You do have to upgrade your account now to get the downloads.

I got mine for free.

Sorry.

FrannyandZooey · 16/07/2006 22:09

Ah, thanks. It saved me looking round the site for ages working out whether or not it was something I could do, or not. I think it's only a few dollars to upgrade, isn't it? I'll probably do it, for one month at least. I think MN will have got the site some serious custom this month

SaintGeorge · 16/07/2006 22:10

$3.99 for the monthly option. You could do loads of montages and download them in a month and then cancel

FrannyandZooey · 16/07/2006 22:14

And sorry for the daft questions, StG, but if I downloaded them to Real Player or whatever it was, would I then be able to transfer them onto DVD, or do I have to pay out for their version if I want a hard copy?

SaintGeorge · 16/07/2006 22:17

No, you definately have to pay for the dvd if you want a 'hard' copy.

I spent ages instead recreating the ones I have done on onetruemedia into Windows Movie Maker. It took me longer than the online ones as you have to do all the effects/transitions individually but it was worth it as I have now copied them onto cd and sent it round the whole family

Skribble · 16/07/2006 22:53

I have done a couple and used the e.mail option to send out the "sample" to everyone including myself.

SoupDragon · 17/07/2006 12:23

I did read my own thread StG - you replied in teh 3 seconds it took me to type my message!

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 17/07/2006 12:25

Tsk, type quicker.

Snort.

Apologies for misleading you over the free download thingy - I was obviously lucky enough to do mine before they updated the site.

SoupDragon · 17/07/2006 12:28

Not surprised you can't do it for free though (I'd already tried that so you didn't mislead me really)

I keep watching my montage and blubbing! I'm pathetic

OP posts:
misdee · 17/07/2006 12:30

i am pathetic SD,mi keep blubbing at all 3 of mine (isopent too much time on the pc at the weekend )

SaintGeorge · 17/07/2006 12:35

I love both of yours Soupy/Misdee. I linked all the motages to my own account and sat and watched them all last night. Took ages and I was a gibbering wreck at the end.

Montages make wonderful presents. I did a family one for my Mum, going right back to before she met my dad right through to the last photos before he died. A simple, free thing but she said it was the best gift she had ever had.
