Unless it was an amazing super top of the range v expensive one I don't think it would be worth getting it serviced would it?

SoupDragon · 15/07/2006 20:06

What WWW said . Also depends how old it is.

zippitippitoes · 15/07/2006 20:08

financially it's almost worth buying a new printer instead of new ink...environmentally ridiculous

sansouci · 15/07/2006 20:08

Have this problem & was told reparing printer would cost more than a new one. Revolted at throw-away consumerism. Grrr! Still have broken printer.

WideWebWitch · 15/07/2006 20:10

It is environmentally ridiculous, absolutely agree.

SenoraPostrophe · 15/07/2006 20:11

if it's expensive, get it serviced.

if it was a cheapish one, take it to bits and clean with swtch cleaner (available from most electrical shops - vodka will do if you don't have any). It's usually dirt that stops em from working.

as for ink: get the refill kit thingumies.

zippitippitoes · 15/07/2006 20:13

sp are you clever enough to take one to bits and put it back together adn it works

sansouci · 15/07/2006 20:15

would this work on dh, I wonder? Just about ready to bin him...

SenoraPostrophe · 15/07/2006 20:15

zippi, admitedly dh usually does it, but I have been known to! the trick is to lay the bits out in order so you know which bit goes where. and not to let the cat into the room where you've laid the bits out!

it's usually the little rollers that pull the paper though that go, or the bits near the ink jets get clogged up with ink. you could have a go at cleaning those bits with switch cleaner and cotton buds if you're too chicken to take it to bits!

I am on a crusade to stop so many things being thrown away - can you tell?

gothicmama · 15/07/2006 22:59

think it'll have to be anew one it's teh print cartridge contacts that seem to be playing up have cleaned them etc. thanks all
