Not really too sure but could you tryd an archive search with the daily newspapers? Sorry you lost your dad

Blondilocks · 14/07/2006 18:51

I don't know if this will help but I think local libraries tend to have old newspapers on microfilm so it may be worth contacting them? or even some of the newspaper companies themselves.

Good luck.

might be able to help rickman (or at least my dh when he's in later) - he has done the kind of research that might be helpful.

Squarer · 14/07/2006 18:55

What do you need to know Rickman? I can tell you that you can buy the policemans report, but it will be mostly Stats 19 information (which I can help you understand if you like) but all the policemans personal interpretation of the accident and all data which would pertain to individuals would be removed.

Am puff btw!

zephyrcat · 14/07/2006 19:02

If there's anything I can try and do I'd be happy to try and help you. x

zephyrcat · 14/07/2006 19:45

albosmum · 14/07/2006 19:55

if you can get accesss to the times digital archive and look at following ref
The Times, Wednesday, Dec 12, 1984; pg. 1; Issue 62010; col B
There is an article about it i think by Rupert Morris; David Cross.
Your local library may have access

foxinsocks · 14/07/2006 19:56

crikey rickman, I remember that accident

if you go to your local library, you will definitely find old articles on it - I remember it being in the papers

foxinsocks · 14/07/2006 20:05

also, at the time, I was doing a sort of community service course with Surrey police (the sort of thing you do in secondary school as part of 'working with the community'!). I remember we had a talk from someone who had dealt with the scene. I clearly remember him saying how it is the sort of thing you never forget . I wonder, if you ever felt up to it, whether you could contact Surrey police (or whoever it was that went to the scene) and talk to one of their officers - if there are any left who were around at that time.

Rickman, email the local papers see what they can get up for you.
Looking at the statistics in those chart forms is grim. Really grim

Prufrock · 14/07/2006 23:28

Can I possibly hijack Rickman? For a similar query?

My Mum (and Grandmother) were killed by a dunk driver in 1976 on the North Cirular and I've never been able to find out many details - Dad just doesn't talk about it - I did try the local library microfiches a few years ago but got nowhere.

Puff - if this is also teh sort of thing your dh would be able to help with i'd be so grateful. Most of the time I manage to out it out of my mind but the combination of rickmans message and the 3/4 bottle of wine I've drunk to0night have made me morbidly curious too (and an extremely bad tyopist()

If it reached the national newspapers, then contact the British Library, Magazine and Newspapers section(I'm sure it's on the British Library website).

The archive they hold is huge, it's based in Colindale, NW London and I used it for a project and the amount of newspapers they have archived is tremendous.
