How safe is your car...?

Euro NCAP safety tests

How does your car score for passenger and pedestrian safety? Which did you consider whenpurchasing your car? Did you even know it was scored on pedestrian safety?

My Laguna scores 5/5 for passenger safety. This was the reason we bought it. It only scores 2/4 for pedestrian safety. It never occurred to me to check how safe it was for pedestrian shouldI be unfortunate enough to hit one (or they be unfortunate enough to be hit my me)

alahbrama is basically the same as a vw sharon, same shape etc so i would say its okay kelly
My car isn't on there, either its too old

There are loads of cars missing, mykidsmum. I've always hankered after a Lexus RX400 (a 4X4 ) but that's not there.

apparently the brand new peugeot 208 is a lot better for pedestrians so tthe tide may be turning..of course manufacturers blame consumers who value other things more highly

mykidsmum · 14/07/2006 17:35

You could always get one and plead ignorance then SD I don't think our VW campervan is probably safe for pedestrians as visibility etc is not good, and it doesn't have a bonnet. For this reason we don't drive it to school, ever and use it only for what its intended for, breaking down

mykidsmum · 14/07/2006 17:35

please excuse my absolutely appalling use of punctuation

daisy1999 · 14/07/2006 17:41

we've just bought a new to us car and we chose it on adult and child safety rating.

hulababy · 14/07/2006 17:42

My Forfour scores 4/5 for passenger safety and 2/4 for pedestrian safety. Ony 2/5 for child protection for some reason which is a little worrying.

Can't find the Toyato Aygo on there but if similar to the new Yaris then it is generally fine (4-5/5, 2/4 and 3/5 respectively).

zippitippitoes · 14/07/2006 17:46

207 actually which is one of the first cars to comply with new pedestrian legislation

daisy1999 · 14/07/2006 17:47

the car salesmen we saw only mentioned adult safety so it's worth knowing that good adult safety doesn't mean good child safety.

GeorginaA · 14/07/2006 17:49

YIKES ... my Nissan Micra (which I otherwise love) scores low on both - (2/5 for both)

GeorginaA · 14/07/2006 17:51

Flipping heck - dh's Almera scores even LOWER

SoupDragon · 14/07/2006 19:34

daisy1999, did he mention pedestrian safety at all? Bet he didn't. Both the adult & child safety you mention are for the occupants of the car.

Zippitippitoes, that 207 review is hilarious. This "The availability of a fragrance diffuser will make the 207 the first Peugeot vehicle to be available with this feature. It is discreetly incorporated into the fascia panel, and diffuses a chosen scent into the passenger compartment. Seven individual fragrances will be available and all have been specially developed by a leading French perfume supplier." comes before the bit about pedestrian safety!! Will be interesting to see how it scores in tests.
