I have identifed a "type" who drive 4x4s in London, wondered if it was accurate...

I live in SW London, home of the tossy 4x4s that never see a hill or any mud.

It seems to me that these cars are often driven by teeny weeny pinstick women who are married to big rugby player type men. I think it follows that if you are an ickle bickle lollipop of a woman and you are attracted to a huge manly bear of a man that you like to be pwotected by your big man and so you feel the need for the same type of pwotection from your car.

Do you think I am right?

I mean, usually people are attracted to their own physical shape etc aren't they?

Here endeth the poisson psychology.

Gotcha, thank you.

suejonez · 12/07/2006 16:45

SleepyJess - porche would be the obvious choice but they already have one of thise

Though she bucks the stereotype one way - she doesn't have blond highlights and gets her 16 yr old sone to cut her hair.

TooTicky · 12/07/2006 16:47

You can actually buy spray-on "mud" to make city 4x4 types feel more rugged.

bundle · 12/07/2006 16:48

luvin' that monza, fio.

what do you drive, btw?

suejonez · 12/07/2006 16:49

my sis's car doesn;t need the spray on mud - its more urban chic - used starbucks cups and dog hairs

A couple of things...

  1. Agree that drivers are more likely to be lollipop women.

  2. I think possibly it's a sexual thing... dh wants ickle dw to be seen as strong and capable and in control, despite her heightened chance of being blown over in the wind, hence buys her a f*ck off truck. (I always pmsl when I see mini face in Great Big Window of Great Big Truck).

  3. These cars tend to say to others 'eff you cos I am either big or strong or rich or posh' (or mix of above).

  4. My dad's theory - the 4X4 is the modern expresion of colonial supremacy with a 'new' tool that is bigger / stronger / faster / more offensive / painful / dominant than the 'native' equivalent.

CD I think your psychology is def true of SW London, don't know how much it translates elsewhere. But the streets of Sheen, Richmond, Kew etc. are full of the proofs of your pudding
It also stretches to Chisiwck

I've also seen 5 different Hummers in and around Richmond - now that is a totally ridiculous car to have in London, but it was the obvious next stage - one up from keeping a ludicrously large Range Rover in a suburban street

MrsJohnCusack · 12/07/2006 16:54

oh Porsche Cayennes - there are so many around here and they are total crapmobiles

IMO of course.....

suejonez · 12/07/2006 16:55

"And Porsche Cayennes? SPEW!"

God no they're dreadful - didn't mean they have one of those, they have a carrera - meant the porche was the obvious choice for their lifestyle. I wasn't thinking of those dreadful 4x4's, though someone around here has one. Why would you buy one if you had that much money?

CountessDracula · 12/07/2006 16:55

Does the bloke with the APC still live in Chiswick? He used to make me giggle, driving around in a tank

MrsJC are you local too - why haven't we met in RL? We could be exercise buddies (ROFL)!

Sorry hijack.

suejonez · 12/07/2006 16:57

Do you know what that tanky/trucky thing parked up near The Naked Turtle is? Is it road worthy? Would be useful to know in the event of war breaking out in SW London.

CountessDracula · 12/07/2006 16:57

oh no wasn't implying they had a cayenne, I just find it hilarous that anyone would buy one. 911 is cool (I assume you don't mean the GT!)

where do you live Suejonez? Am in SW14

Errm, so as I drive a Toyata Rav 4 does that make me very unpopular, at least on this thread?
Just interested how terrible a person I am for driving it and not living in the country.
Don't give a toss, I like it and it suits, but just interested.

CountessDracula · 12/07/2006 16:59

TC up against the wall - any last requests?

Most of the chavvy dolly bird mums had them at ds's primary school here in Brighton! They were all brand new and spotlessly clean and HUGE!!!They are for off road why do people have them in cities where you can't park?

Thomcat · 12/07/2006 17:00

LOL
Yeah - a bigger car!

CountessDracula · 12/07/2006 17:00

CD - I was in SW14 (leinster Ave) until about 3 yrs ago. Now in Kew.

MrsJohnCusack · 12/07/2006 17:01

sue I am in Whitton, the distinctly unsmart outpost of Twickenham full of pensioners and boy racers. I've just driven past the Naked Turtle but didn't notice the truck.

ROFL at exercise buddies - snort!
Countess Drac, did see that APC when I lived in Chiswick but that was a few years ago so not sure if he's still about, might ask my sis. Someone has a bright yellow Hummer in Chiswick - madness

CountessDracula · 12/07/2006 17:03

Toyota Landcruisers are about the worst I think they are VAST. I have found their owner's site, am tempted to log on to the chat room and wind them up.... LOOK
