How much does it cost to get a house rewired?

Aaaargh! *!@$!ing moving!

Everything was going so smoothly... till today.

Buyers had a full electrical survey done, and have been told that the whole house needs rewiring. But they haven't yet been told how much it's going to cost. It's obvious that they are going to want to try to knock the cost off their purchase price... but how much? Anyone ever had a house rewired and might be able to give me a ballpark figure? It's a biggish 4 bed Victorian terrace on three floors plus cellar (and there's electrical stuff in the cellar too - our washing machine is down there, etc.). Aaargh (again)... it's going to be loadsamoney, isn't it?

Also have been told today that we have to get a building regulations certificate for the minute extension we had done in 2005 (just a teeny weeny loo). The council told us that we didn't need planning permission for it as it was within 'permitted development' and the builder assured us that it 'had been done according to building regs' but that we didn't need a certificate. Now we are going to have to get an inspector from the council round (but first we have to fill in an application form AND y a fee - no idea how much) and he'll inspect it. But for his inspection we have to expose the foundations. Aaaaaaargh (again)!

Have I mentioned Aaaaaargh!!???

Depends where you live possibly - in SE England I would say 5-10k. I think when we had ours done 6 yrs ago it was about 4k not including the kitchen - and I would think our house is smaller

Ours was £3k last December, but this is a 3 bed semi & it was an electrician friend who did it.(we are in the east midlands btw).
