I had problems with the internet last night have got back on today but security keeps flashing up alerts
invalid TCP segment ?
Translation please.
Last night it seemed someone was dialling but it wasn't the ISP and I couldn't reconnect.Virus scans haven't showed up any problems though.
TIA

sounds like it could be an autodialler. if it hasn't connected properly then you've had a lucky escape, but phone the telephone company and ask if there's been any unusual activity on the account anyway. by unusual activity I mean lots of phone calls to premium rate numbers

autodiallers aren't always viruses, but a combination of a very up to date virus program and spam bot should get it. if not you may need to reinstall.

of course i could be wrong. dh knows more about this stuff then me - I'll ask him later.

ok just asked dh and he says it sounds nasty. could well be an autodialler - have your or anyone in your house been on some dodgy sites lately? and could they have clicked "yes" when it asks if you want to download and install blablabla? (this is where they usually come from - hence are not viruses, though can also be viruses).

it sounds like you're going to need to re-install.

No dodgy sites I noticed (only me that uses the computer)doesn't seem to be doing it tonight but do have lots of messages

inbound TCP connection attempt
and

Might be just your dial up networking going belly up, but deffo reboot and deffo do an install of some spyware finding progs to check you don't have a trojan / autodialler thingy. They are a mare to remove.

Seems to be working for now

AdAware is quite good.

So is SpyBot

Might be worth trying both of them.

Just to clarify, you don't want spyware, you want shot of it !
