It really is no bother at all

5 year old and 2 year old .. 5 year old at school 9 till 3.30 .. 2 year old sleeps for 2 or 3 hours every afternoon

Have lots of friends ... do lots of stuff .. currently have 2 x 2 year olds in the house and have ignored them enough to make 2 lots of muffins and be on here .. yesterday DD and I went to meet some lovely people in a park for a picnic

Yes get angsty / bored / frustrated at times .. but used to feel like that when I was working too

c'mon ... flame me .. I'm ready for ya !!!!!

nah i'm with you actually love being a SAHM

aelita · 11/07/2006 14:30

Me too! I'm not saying it's a total breeze, but I love life at the moment, at home with a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old. I wanted to scream with boredom with the last office job I had. Decorating, housework and shouty toddlers are a whole lot more interesting, frankly! Mind you, not sure how I'll feel when winter sets in...

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/07/2006 14:34

Good for you Twig. Enjoy it.

Thomcat · 11/07/2006 14:36

Loving it Twiggs

I bloody love my life too mate. I get to be with my kids from Friday morning through to Monday evening and then I get to hand them over to someone else to play with for 3 days while I come into work for a bit of a change and then I'm ready to be mum again. I love life, am looking forward to being a mum to those two even more when Lottie can walk and Eve is big enough for them to play properly together, glad you do too.

I am a SAHM to & i love it, yes i have days where i want to pull my hair out but i also LOVE the fact i can spend lots of time bringing up my children & lots of time playing, taking them out & having fun, like in about 1hr when dd decides to wake up with are off to my sisters for a barbeque

I am NOT lazy i am looking after 2 kids i am doing all my housework & most importantly i am havings lots & lots of FUN

I love it !

SoMuchToBits · 11/07/2006 14:54

I would say that for me, being a SAHM with a baby was a lot harder than being at work - parly because there is practically no "time off" e.g. tea breaks, lunch hours, days off etc. But as they get older, you get more "time off" as they start going to playgroup, nursery, school, etc, plus they become less dependent and more able to do fun things with you. So by the time my ds was about 3, I would say it was preferable to being at work.

Having said that, I think a lot would depend on your child(ren) and your work.

I'm jealous. I want to make muffins. Instead, I have to sit on mumsnet obsessively reading about other people's muffins and scanning muffin recipes which I'll never have time to bake because I'm busy reading mumsnet...

hoxtonchick · 11/07/2006 15:33

my life is pretty good too. ds is 4, will start school in september, dd is 1. i work 2 days a week, which i do enjoy mostly, & we pretty much have a lovely time the rest of the time (both of them are currently messing around in our garden, & they do play together quite a lot considering there's 3.5 years between them). greatly looking forward to ds starting school so dd & i can have some time together.

Mercy · 11/07/2006 16:10

A year or so ago, I would have agreed with you. I don't know why but I am finding it much harder now my two are 5 and 2.5.

mousiemousie · 11/07/2006 16:14

I am pleased you like this lifestyle. Its the lifestyle I think I would prefer for myself if it was an option...although whether I could ever really be happy with the loss of financial independence I don't know.

WestCountryLass · 11/07/2006 22:12

Another smug SAHM here too

I love my life. DS is 4, he goes to pre-school every afternoon, and DD is 2 and with me all day.

We do things together in the morning (music, park, playgroup, playing, swimming) and then DS goes off to do his big boys thing and DD and I have a few hours together. BY the time I get home the kids play or we have people back for tea and the days fly by.

We have a lot of fun, laugh a lot and for the msot part get on really well. Of course we do have the odd bad day but I love being with my kids and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Tortington · 11/07/2006 22:50

Tortington · 11/07/2006 23:11

when they hit 13.

jwerb · 11/07/2006 23:41

Oh Iota - thank yooooooou, soooooo much for that! mine are 5, 3 and 1 and VERY demanding!!

Mine too. The 5yo is at school, the other two at home full time. Roll on Sept when the 3yo starts nursery 4 mornings a week and I can ditch the double buggy and march around town at high speed with a single buggy...

WestCountryLass · 11/07/2006 23:49

I am glad we can afford it too It could have been so different for us. When my maternity pay ended DH left his job and we have had to remortgage our house twice to pay for him to set up his own business. He works very long hours and alot of weekends but it is worth it and we are now beginning to see the fruits of his labour.

Tortington · 12/07/2006 00:15

that'll be it then. my dh needs to work harder

Tortington · 12/07/2006 00:17

oh balls - we dont earn enough to get a mortgage - can't re mortage.

ah fuck it dh can be the lazy git he is working full time an all

fairyfly · 12/07/2006 00:20

Janh, i will see you in the summer, i will, i will, i will

threebob · 12/07/2006 01:34

I loved every minute - and still think that I am a SAHM despite being self employed for 15 hours a week.

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 12/07/2006 21:14

I'm a smug sahm too but then I don't have schoolruns yet (2 kids 3y and 17m.) Not sure whether it will be great when DD goes to playschool in September as I'll finally get to know my DS a bit or whether I'm going to find 5 mornings of playschoolrun a week too much hard work and commitment.
I'm all for pottering and not rushing so very glad not to have to work right now. Don't see how getting small kids to and from (various) childcare and self to work could be anything less than gruelling unpaid overtime and life is too short. I may consider becoming a dinnerlady when they're both at school...
