I am thinking of doing my nvq 2/3 in childcare (or something similar) and also possibly training in British sign language, enabling me to work with deaf children.
If you work in a school, but are not a teacher, do you get full pay in the school holidays or just a percentage.
If the position is salaried then i'm assuming i would get paid the same rate all of the time.
Have i got it completly wrong ????

I fairly sure you're right, but someone else will be able to confirm.

hi nutty!
my aunt works in a school and from what i can gather when the six weeks holidays come around she gets her wages for the six weeks in one lump sum at the beginning of the holidays. hope this helps! good luck.
do you remember kelly mcnicholas? she was in our textiles class, she did her sign language exams but it was years ago, she works at wilson stuart school in perry common with deaf kids now.
i also work with agirl who is leaving soon as she did her BSL and has got a job in a special school, if you want me to get any info off her just let me know!
take careX

Nutcracker, I think that sounds like a brilliant idea. And what a rewarding and interesting job it would be. And perfect to combine with having children.

I used to be a teachers assistant, but have not worked for a few years now so i dont know if things have changed, but i was not paid for the summer holidays, but my salary was spread out over the 12 months so you did not notice.
Also i was able to claim job seekers allowence for the summer school holidays as i was not paid.

Well thanx for all the replies. I am hoping to start my bsl course in september. Not sure about the nvq though, as i have to be working in childcare already to do it. I have rung a couple of nurseries offering training places, but the training allowance wouldn't cover childcare for ds.
Tiredemma - Any info you could get would be a help.

Does anyone know at what age children learn sign language ?? As i was hoping to work with very young children (pre school age)???
