DH's father died when he was 18, and lately ds1 has been asking questions about how the family is "structured" - he started out by saying he wanted to miss out being a dad and go straight to being a Grandad! When we explained to him that this wasn't possible, he seemed very interested in the fact that his grandad is Mummy's daddy, etc. It's all a bit loaded because we recently broke contact with his maternal grandmother. We think it's only a matter of time before he asks where hid Daddy's father is. I have various embryonic ideas of how to broach it, but I'd be grateful for any input from MNers I think it's particularly sensitive because he is still upset about not seeing his grandmother so I don't want to get it wrong.
