Traffic Lights, Bicycles, Sensors

This is starting to really annoy me. I bicycle everywhere, and follow the rules of the road. But there are a couple of lights near me that obviously have sensors, and don't realise I'm there, waiting, patiently, while the lights change and change and change. If there are cars behind me, they don't get noticed, either, and we all just stay there.

Is there any way to tell if lights are on sensors. Is there any way to make sure you trigger them?

I alway zig zag when approaching these lights. Seems to work.

Hmm, maybe I'll try that. Are the sensors a camera? Or something in the pavement?

i think they might be wires embedded in the road, like the ones for bus lane cameras. can you see anything in the tarmac as you approach? if you're on a bike, you might be too far to the left to trigger it.

There weren't any wires on this one. They probably vary from place to place, oh bliss.

(And I was pretty far right, actually, getting ready to turn right, but am probably not heavy enough etc etc to trigger them.)
