I've got a utility room ..... with a downstairs loo.

Always wanted one. Got one. And now its the bain of my life coz its ALLLLLWAYS stacked to the ceiling with clothes!!!!

mummydear · 30/06/2006 20:38

On a wet day my conservatory is my utility room with clothes drier and basket of washing !!

Another use for a conservatory !!

cece · 30/06/2006 20:45

I have a utility shed - does that count? In it there is a sink, some kitchen style units, plus washing machine and tumble drier......

soapbox · 30/06/2006 20:53

I've got a utility room with a huge butlers sink and massive larder cupboard for storing all the crap that has no home anywhere else in the house

But by far the best thing in it is a huge american washing machine and dryer that can wash a 22lb wash and dry it on a full cycle in around 30mins. Weeks washing for 4 of us done in about 3 loads - takes no time at all

sugarfree · 30/06/2006 20:54

Soapbox has upped the ante considerably there I think!

moondog · 30/06/2006 21:14

is a maiden a clothes horse
have lovely utility with(get this!) a Cath Kidston ironing board and plastic bag holder.
matching wicker baskets and lavender laundry water
i deserve it

BettySpaghetti · 30/06/2006 21:17

I've got one but its 2D not 3D -currently on the architects plans but no sign of the real thing yet

tracyk · 30/06/2006 21:27

where do you get the american washing machines from over here then?
You can get these Sheila Maid things for £20 odd from ebay. I am going to get one.

LittleMerlin · 30/06/2006 21:54

My utility room is my favorite room in the house - and i have a Sheila Maid - always wanted one and finally my dream has come true - how sad!!!. Also houses the boiler, washingmachine/tumble dryer/beer and wine fridge/sink and any other old junk that I don't know where to put. I can just shut the door and no one is any the wiser!!!!

PS. I have one large apple tree (no orchard), but it does have a wooden swing hanging from it which sold the house to me!!!!

MarsLady · 30/06/2006 22:05

Yes. It has access to the garden too. There is also a downstairs loo off of it. I have my washing machine and tumble dryer, iron and ironing board in there. I have a shelving unit and just need to buy some new boxes for sorting the laundry into whites, colours etc. Plus I am about to get the children a basket each so that their ironing can go into them and they can take them up to their rooms.

I love it! I close the door and the laundry just doesn't exist anymore. Bliss!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 30/06/2006 22:12

I don't have a utility room, but I have an enormous downstairs loo with huuuge door, which if loo was taken out it could be used for one! (Live in a new build)

puff · 30/06/2006 22:25

What is a Sheila maid? Worried I'm missing out on something

moondog · 30/06/2006 22:29

You know, that rack on a pulley for drying clothes (usually above an AGA)
We had one which dh always wrote as 'shelia maid'.

(Christ, what was a virile young man in his 20s doing, writing about laundry equipment?????)

hunkermunker · 30/06/2006 22:40

Laundry threads on MN are always funny, dontcha think?

puff · 30/06/2006 23:48

Oh right, dh had one in this house before I moved in. I got rid of it because it didn't seem to hold many clothes
