Learning a language - what is the best way?

I need to learn Italian. I am not sure if I should pay £200 to do a 1 hour a week course at the local college or buy some kind of learn at home thing or do both. And if so I don't know what the best ones are. I am quite quick at picking up languages and have A level german.

Any suggestions?

Duolingo is really good to try first - it's free :) I'm finding it really helps me learn German.

However £200 isn't too bad so might be worth a go - you could do both.

If you are quite quick at picking languages up, then get started by youself. You can find loads of resources online, including soundfiles to help with pronunciation.

Once you've got started for free, you might find it worth having lessons to fill in the gaps.

I have learnt a language to a fair standard without ever having lessons - it can be done, but you do need to be focussed and dedicated.

Thanks for your advice. The online sites seem good and you can practice easily.
