changing rooms/public toilets

At a hotel I went to the staff wouldn't let me take my six year old nephew into the female changing rooms for the swimming pool. They insisted he should go into the male changing room and offered to send a male attendant with him.

So, at what age do you let your sons go into male changing rooms at swimming pools? And what about public toilets?

I think 8 is perhaps the age that you have to be to go swimming without an adult, I have seen a lot of places with no kids under 8 yrs unless accompanied. At butlins 8 yrs was the age we went by with regards to lost kids, if under 8 they were "taken into custody" even if they said they were allowed out on their own.

It seems to be 8 when they are allowed to swim without an adult. If they are allowed to do this then I think that this is the time for them to use the "correct" changing room.

Although the more modern pools have the family areas which is great in my opinion.

Just as long as he doesn't shout back, "I've FINISHED!" Skribble, I think it would be perfectly reasonable.

What you say makes sense, too, Blondilocks.

Well I am shocked that so many of you still have segregated changing rooms at your pools - our last segregated wa converted before my children were born )or there abouts!) TBH that would have been the line I would have adopted - do you realise that it is considered normal for men and women to change in the same area now - and you are worried about my 6yo???

I agree with the manager/mp thing, I would be livid if they tried this with my 6yo - in truth I would be livid at 8 too as I think as the parent I have the say as to when they are old enough to go off alone into these situations not some spotty faced fast track management kid
