My dh recently had an accident at work which has meant he can no longer continue in his previous profession. He has decided to train to become an LGV driver 1 and 2. He has paid nearly 1000 pounds for a 4 day course and has his theory test booked for 2 weeks time. He is training with a company called Sterling in Bolton. It is a lot of money to fork out and I just wondered if anyone knows anything about this company. Does anyone else have a lorry driving dh and what sort of wage would he expect to earn? any advice would be appreciated as this is a bit of a gamble but we are hoping it will give him good job prospects.

I know someone who supported himself at Uni by getting his a lorry driving license and doing temp work in holidays/etc. Presumably it's long work hours, though.

My dp was going to do this once but he didn't want to fork out the money with no garuntee of passing the test. I wish he had done it though as it pays pretty good money i think. If you get your HGV it pays even better.

My ex dp is a hgv driver,he only has his class 2 licence which he got through his old job so didnt need to pay the cost of the cost, fortunatly. It depends on what kind of work he gets as to what the pay is like, long distance involving overnight stays can be extremely well paid and class 1 is also paid a lot higher than class 2,in some jobs he has looked at htere can be as muvch as 4 and 5 pounds difference between the two classes so having his class 1 is a better job.HTH
