Anyone relocated within the UK - and regretted it?

We're thinking of moving to the south coast for better quality of life and bigger house for our money. we currently live in SE London, pretty high crime area, brilliant schools though, lots of family and friends nearby as DH and i both grew up in London.

Our worry is that if we move to Hastings/St Leonards (where we're looking), will we be unbearably lonely (we don't know anyone there), and unable to get back on the housing ladder in London?

Anyone done this and then moved back?

Yes. Moved to our dream home by the sea four years ago (500 miles, not the south coast!). For lots of personal reasons it was the right decision at the time. Have just moved back for work reasons. The DCs made loads of friends and had a great life. DH and I not so much. We won't be able to buy anything like we had before, which is upsetting but there is nothing we can do about it now. All very personal though, so I'm not sure anything about our decision making processes would help you! That said, I'm glad we tried it, because at least now we know.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you - were your DCs sad to leave? I think my DD (3) is too young to feel wrenched if we DO move, but I think DH and i would miss family and friends. And we realised too that we'd never be able to go out in the evenings as who'd babysit? Wouldn't want to leave DD with a stranger. Feel like it'd be a great adventure but it could go horribly wrong!
