or rather Daily Mail journalists, because that's what annoyed me today (read it a IL's, before you ask)

Article about Germany - Poland game, and of course of course there have to be references to Germany invading Poland blah blah

Why? WHY????

If the Daily Mail is representative of Britishness I will have to emigrate and become a naturalised citizen of somewhere else, emkana!

Crap of them but then what can you expect of the DM?

nicnack2 · 15/06/2006 20:45

because wayne rooneys foots better noyhing else to take about

JanH · 15/06/2006 20:48

We have a (ahem) Daily Express in the house today - it appears to have been left over after somebody's paper round and a good job too probably - anyway it has a huge feature on Princess Margaret's trinkets being sold at auction for a silly amount of money, with photos, and bugger me, 10 pages later, another one! With the same photos!

Is it because Diana is dead? Can't they cope?

notagrannyyet · 15/06/2006 21:39

MIL buys the Mial! DP brings it home. News(?) is a day late, and it doesn't improve with keeping. If we buy a paper it's the Times or the Telegraph... not every day tough!Sometimes read the Guardian.I like their Education pages.

arfy · 15/06/2006 21:44

I have a friend who is a 'journalist' for the Daily Mail (and until recently worked for the Express). I can't actually bring myself to discuss her job with her because I just want to scream HOW COULD YOU? at her!

I read the Daily Mail at the inlaws today. It was total bunkum from beginning to end (including my friend's article....)

SenoraPostrophe · 15/06/2006 21:50

well, much as I hate the mail, are they gratuitous references or references to the local derby type nature of the match? When I used to teach mixed nationality tefl classes I sometimes had to deal with huge tensions between polish and german students (almost all on the side of the poles as it goes). probably the worst nationality tensions I ever had to deal with in fact.

moondog · 15/06/2006 21:57

I love Jan trying to blame paperboy for the Express.
Lol!!!

JanH · 15/06/2006 23:14
Grin

Not a random paperboy, moony - DS1 - he is working at the papershop some mornings and does the odd round when one of the young ones doesn't turn up. This was left in the bag this morning so some poor soul didn't get it, imagine their disappointment Shock

DS1 buys the Guardian by choice now

In fact DS2 bought it this week too, they all had to bring one in for an English lesson so naturally that's what he got. I'm so proud!

handlemecarefully · 15/06/2006 23:17

They have newspapers at the bar in my gym for members to read.

If the Times or Independent isn't available I will at a push read the Daily Mail... but I always try and furtively conceal the front page from others; I'm so embarrassed.

Have realised I would rather be seen looking at a top rack soft porn mag than reading the DM

2shoes · 15/06/2006 23:21

i like the daily mail I get it on a saturday. by then I have finished my mags and haven't got time to red a whole book so need a bit of fiction:o

Cappucino · 15/06/2006 23:42

I used to be given it by my elderly neighbour

I used to enjoy the way all the stories about women started 'a wife' 'a widow' 'a divorcee' etc

foundintranslation · 16/06/2006 00:03

'Just by way of a change, Poland invaded Germany. They were confronted by a battle hymn for the occasion which reminded them that the last time it was the other way round and it took the sons of the Fatherland only 28 days to defeat them.'
Quote from the article in question (just looked it up on the web). So not local derby references, sadly, but war stereotypes. :(

Needtowhinge · 16/06/2006 08:08

Why oh why were you reading that rag? Sorry but it does serve you right....[sigh]
