A while back I was told to make a new claim; my CTC had stopped, and I was sent a form which I completed and sent off as soon as I received it. This was a week before a payment was due so I haven't had any payment for ages.

I have been ringing up to see when I would next get a payment as I am so broke I have to use my overdraft for food, nappies etc. I was told my form hadn't been received on the system. Rang again a few days later, was told the same and also told it takes 3 weeks to be received on the system. Rang again today and was again told the same and that next week I should ring back and if no change then it must have been lost in the post so I will have to fill in a fresh form.

Anyway, despite this, I have just had a phone call, didn't know they worked this late, to say they were looking at my form (even though they said they hadn't received it) and they had a few questions. Then they said they needed some security questions answered, asked my first name, date of birth, maiden name and NI number. She then said the NI number I gave was a bit different from the one they had for me. I told them that every time I hear from them or from milk tokens they have a D instead of a C on the end; I have told them about this before and they said "Don't worry, it's fine".

Anyway, she said she has to pass it on to the tracing office to sort out, which will take two weeks then they should be able to start paying me again.

Anyone heard of this happen before?

nope but they have told you a pile of c**p. they can renew your tax credits over the phone so you don't even have to worry about filling the form in correctly: when i phoned them up to say that work hadn't got my p60, i just used the amount on the last pay slip.

there has been so many probs with the tax credit system i think it's a lottery and depends a lot on who you speak to.

can you apply for an emergency grant from social security?

Have had similar experience. My 'overpayments' go up each year, even tho they don't pay me anything, and it takes them about a year to investigate it each time, but referring to their mistakes with personal details, I rang, went through all the security Q's, then he refused to speak to me about my claim as I'd given them the wrong personal details. He was so rude, wouldn't put me through to a supervisor or anything. I eventually hung up and called back, still gave 'wrong' details, but she at least put me through to a manager, and all it was, wa that I'd givn the name of the part of the city I live in, rather than the city, even though everything else was correct.

arggg I had this yesterday also , I renewed my tax credit over the phone 3 weeks ago and have had no payment since they are still processing the new figures they can give no time scale its so frustrating, can you get another crisis loan . I had one once which they gave me £70.00 for a week and they told me I could apply again the following week.
You could try going to your local Tax office where you live with all your documents as I know they used to do interim payments and give you a giro to keep you going till you got an actual award from the Tax, then they just deduct that back from the award you get, I got one of those a year ago when they had not processed my claim it took an afternoon of sitting there but they gave me about £300.00.
