Question about library books

While I was at uni I took out some pretty pricey art books, and lost them!

I paid all the overdue fees, and was charged the cost of replacement which is all fair enough, but I have now found them.

So can I keep them? Or do I have to take them back?

Our library says keep your reciept and bring them back and we will refund you.

If you've paid the replacement cost, then the library will have replaced them. I believe the ones you lost and have now found are yours.

Yes that makes sense..but it still feels wrong even though i've paid the cost of them..hehee

I'm not bothered about a refund as they are really good books I on't mind owning

I would have thought that since you've paid for them they are now yours, but as you feel bad about it, why don't you ring the library and ask them what they would prefer you to do?

they are yours to keep!
you could take them back but the library would probably have replaced them so might as well keep them,
( i worked in a library)

I called them and she has checked their database and said they have replaced 3 of them, but one is now out of print and they would appreciate if I would return it (they will fully refund me)
the others are indeed mine to keep!
