  1. How do I keep my history in Explorer deleted? (so mumsnet doesn't come up on the list below the address bar)
  1. How do I make it so the threads i've looked at don't appear coloured?
  1. How do I make it so that my email & password don't appear in a list below the box to write them in when logging in?

Sorry no idea, are you ok ?

CarolinaMoose · 14/06/2006 08:27

um, might be something to do with disabling cookies and setting the history to delete immediately (in Internet Options - not sure what the shortest period you can have is, as I don't have explorer atm).

Is someone snooping on you?

Uwila · 14/06/2006 08:35
  1. Go to tools, Internet options, general tab. Set days to keep pages in history to 0.
  1. Not sure. Might be covered in 1. above. Or perhaps delete cookies everytime you sign off.
  1. Don't check the box to remember you? I think... could be other reasons too. (for example google tool bar can be set to auto populate boxes for you)

Yes, why are you asking? Is someone tracking your MN use?

bourneville · 14/06/2006 09:07

It's alright, no one's tracking me. my boyf just offered to look after dd one day for a weekend!! can't believe he's offered but it means he'll be at mine alone overnight, will prob use the computer, & i just won't feel comfortable about it unless i make sure everything is secure on here!! Pretty sure he'd never be interested in looking at mumsnet but i don't want to take any risks.

Thanks all i'll check out what you've suggested. The remember me button btw is just so you have to log in every time, but when you type eg "b" it automatically comes up with bourneville. If you press the "down" arrow even without typing anything it lists all the usernames you have ever used!

Then make a new screenname and sign is as that. He'll see the posts of that screenname at worst. You could type a message about what a nice bf you have because he would never snoop and invade your privacy and you have complete trust in him. Grin

I've done that quite a while ago uwila! (FOTM)

OK it looks like I have to Clear History in Internet Options every time i come off.

But the threads i've looked at are still highlighted, and the usernames still come up automatically when i'm logging in.

bourneville · 14/06/2006 09:16

oh, no, sorry i'm wrong, the highlights have gone too having cleared history again.... good....

Is there any reason why i can't block all cookies under the Privacy tab in Internet Options? - ie set it to Very High or whatever it is? Maybe that would work.

OP posts:
bourneville · 14/06/2006 09:24

OK so i've sorted 1. and 2. But can't work out what to do about 3, which is kind of the most important!!

Is it possible to reset explorer so that all cookies are lost.

this is kind of drastic though...

Or can you go into the cookies folder on the My Computer bit and find and delete the Mumsnet cookies?

I have a Mac now and can't remember exactly how it works in Windows, sorry.

bourneville · 14/06/2006 09:33

CM I set it to delete all cookies but when i tried to log in the usernames were still all appearing ANd it didn't actually log me in!!
So i've set it back to normal. will try in My Computer.

I might try emailing MNHQ, i can't work it out... i'm sure it's to do with my computer rather than mumsnet but they might be able to help anyway. on Messenger you can choose to delete all your sign in info, for eg.

how great are mumsnet! they have already replied!
Had to go to Internet Options - Content tab - AutoCorrect & set it so it doesn't automatically fill in forms! phew, i can relax now !:)
