I was asked about 4 months ago to write a charachter reference for a friend but I forgot and shoved it in a drawer. She has rang and said the school have asked for it, so I have got to write it this morning. Basically she helps out at her daughters school in the classroom and I have got to write nice things about her(?) Please help I am clueless at this kind of thing

I will just go and find the form to see if it asks anything in particular.........

Say about her good character, discretion, enthusiasm, stickability at things (ie she wont just piss off) timekeeping personal rpresentation and interpersonla skills

and her patience! (presumably)

I wrote a reference for someone (who got the job) and said she always went "above & beyond" what was required of her at work (eg once she called her childminder to stay on for extra time when something we were doing overran)

interpersonla skills are obviously her Italian skills (!)

I hope this sample helps you..
Letter Sample for Character Reference or Personal Reference/Sample character reference letter written by an acquaintance, rather than an employer:

I have known Jane Doe in a variety of capacities for many years. She has been my daughter's riding instructor for the past several years and, in addition, is my partner in a small business where she is responsible for writing and editing articles and web site content.

Jane is organized, efficient, extremely competent and has an excellent rapport with people of all ages. Her communication skills, both written and verbal, are excellent.

In summary, I highly recommend for any position or endeavor that she may seek to pursue. She will be a valuable asset to any organization.

If you have any questions, please to do hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

And you should mention her being honest & trustworthy (obviously you shouldn't put this if she isn't ).
And loyalty is a good trait too.
