DD is interested in medicine and dentistry. She's only in yr 9 and will be doing work experience next yr.She doesn't think she'll beable to do work exp in the nhs but was wondering about dentistry.Anyone know? Will it be pointless as work exp. as she'll just sit there watching a dentist?
Has anyone's child done work exp in a health related field and did they get much out of it?

Just found this ggirl. Yes, the school arranged it for me. I liked the nhs so much that I'm about to embark on a nursing degree (as a mature student). I worked a lot in the nhs before I had kids, I love it. Pay is poo and conditions aren't wonderful, but it's deffo where I feel I belong career-wise.

Not sure about the nhs but I don't see any reason why she could do her work experience at a dental practice.
With a willing dentist and dental nurse, there's plenty that she could do and not just sit watching.
I would have willing had a eager work experience student with me if I was still a dental nurseSmile

I work in a dental teaching hospital and we have work experience people every year. They see all aspects of what goes on,they are also allowed to go onto clinic to watch the dentists and dental nurses at work.
If you contact the personnel department of your local hospital they will be able to tell you more. The work experience ones we have are arranged by personnel.
