.....I was told about it last year but dd (now 2.3) was too young. Apparently you apply it only the once and it lasts all day even when the lo's go into water. I thinks it quite expensive but worth it. Or, am I totally wrong and it's just for adults? Blush. Or, even more than totally wrong and it doesn't exist? Blush Blush

There are quite a few around this year. Johnsons do one that says it lasts 8 hours or 6 if they go in the water. I've been using it on ds when he goes to school and it seems to last the school day - he's very fair skinned and it's been very hot and he's not burned at all.

\link{http://www.thelongridersguild.com/P20-sunblock.jpg\Is this it ??}

LadySherlockofLGJ · 11/06/2006 15:49

You do not want to know what I got when I googled P20 images. Shock

wishfulthinking · 11/06/2006 15:57

I think that could be it Lady S. The next question is: where do you purchase it from and is it suitable for my dd? I'm not going there on the google bit either!!!!!! I can feel the shock-value from here!!

Cod · 11/06/2006 16:00

piz buin

Furball · 11/06/2006 16:05

Please don't use P20 on you DD or anyone - it has no UVA protecion whatsoever which is the ray that causes skin cancer. There are loads of other once aday ones that do have both UVA and UVB like Boots 'once' - currently on 2 for 1, Piz Buin, or Ultrasun - which you can get in Waitrose.

peachyClair · 11/06/2006 16:06

Soltan does one that is labelled 12 hours- you are supposed to reapply every 4 but DS2 and ds1 are very fair indeed (as am I) and we haven't burned a bit. Even with camping / paddling pool- that's a first!

I would think any chemist would stock one brand or the other, Boots has a choice.

SoupDragon · 11/06/2006 16:11

Another vote for Piz Buin.

The Soltan 12 hour one isn't 12 hours of sun protection, it's 12 hours of moisturising!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 11/06/2006 16:13

Now that is worrying Furball, my cousin is living in the Middle East, and uses that on her children all the time. Shock

Kathlean · 11/06/2006 16:32

Piz Buin or however it is spelt. Can't remember if it is SPF 30 or 40 but does DS all day at school.

Get it everywhere, mine came from Sainsburys.

hulababy · 11/06/2006 16:36

We have the UltraSun once a day - supposed to last 12 hours. Been using it here in Uk okay and no burning yet on me, DH or DD. Will use it twice a day in Florida I think though as more humid.

boudicca · 11/06/2006 16:36

I second that Furball, my daughter workes on Boots ad campaign and talked to a leading skin specialist who confirmed what you've said . It is worrying as P20 was what I used exclusively on my youngest dD. I don't like to think about the damage I've allowed to happen to her skin !

Cod · 11/06/2006 16:38

soltan has lots of uva stars though?

SoupDragon · 11/06/2006 17:09

I use the all day Piz Buin stuff for school days, trips or days out and the Soltan high UVA ones for holidays, applied regularly.

wishfulthinking · 11/06/2006 17:17

I will purchase the Piz Buin one instead then. Thanks for the info on P20 - what on earth is on sale for if it doesn't protect from the rays?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/06/2006 17:19

Soltan has 5 star UVA protection - I use it as I have Polymorphic Light Eruption (sun allergy thingy) and think it's great, nothing else does the trick for me. Piz Buin do a 10 hour lotion - the factor 30 was on offer in Tesco last week.

Shock about the P20 lack of UVA protection.

SoupDragon · 11/06/2006 17:25

P20 stops you burning (UVB rays I think) but doesn't prevent UVA damage.

Both Soltan and Piz Buin are BOGOF in Boots at the moment.

NomDePlume · 11/06/2006 17:30

I use the Tesco baby Factor 40 in a squeezy tube, that also has 5 star UVA protection is good on sensitive skin and brilliant value. Also use a Vichy solid sunstick (SPF 60& 5* UVA)for faces, esp noses and ears. Using this combo has never resulted in sunburn in any of my lot, not even red-haired, freckly, pale & sensitive skinned DD, DS2 or DH.

LIZS · 11/06/2006 17:46

Good on the beach as insulation against the sea breeze too.

LIZS · 11/06/2006 17:46

oops wrong thread !

Gingerbear · 11/06/2006 17:56

Proderm (Bergaderm I think tis called now - blue tin with orange top) mousse factor 30 lasts 6 hours. Boots do a factor 40 all day one now too - on 3 for 2.

SoupDragon · 11/06/2006 18:30

Make sure you buy the right Boots one - it's "Soltan Once" not the "12 hour" one.

Gingerbear · 11/06/2006 21:31

yy soupdragon. Need to apply 15 minutes before you expose to sun.
It is v good - sinks in, so not greasy like some other high factor ones.

foxinsocks · 11/06/2006 21:37

The soltan once (the Boots brand one that lasts 8 hours) is in a cardboard box as opposed to the normal soltan stuff that's in a tube (it's also more expensive but it is BOGOF)

We put it on today and were on the beach for hours and not one of us has burned/tanned deeply at all (and in fact, I have the fairest skin and you can hardly see the costume marks)

also the little colour sun block tubes are quite good for noses and cheeks for the kids
