WHY are all little girls shoes vomit pink?

Fillyjonk · 11/06/2006 07:28

Fillygirl needs walkin' shoes.

Am I missing something, or is it impossible to buy girls shoes in not-pink? Or mauve, if the designers are feeling risky.

And so much WHITE! Its so impractical.

Maybe I'll just buy her boys shoes. The assistant seemed utterly and completely shocked at such an idea though, like i was going to feed her chocolate or something Shock

Summer shoes are the worst aren’t they? I ended up giving in with DD2 and buying her the only pair that fit her properly - a pair ofchunky hush puppy sandals in an unfortunate shade of raspberry pink. Of course, DD2 is delighted with them which I guess is the main thing.
In the winter we end up with the same old Navy as I don’t like black on tiny ones feet and will never ever ever buy those nasty dark red shiny Dorothy Wizard of oz type winter shoes they always drag out.
Time for a girl’s shoe revolution !

Boy shoes are hideous, too. In fact, don't know why Clarks has such a monopoly, given the service. I was in there yesterday and even the assistant was embarrassed by the limited choice and the fact that "we aren't actually getting any more in this Summer, so these are the only kind left in that particular size".

SoupDragon · 11/06/2006 09:59

I will cut BabyDragon's feet off before I let her wear a pair of pink shoes.

Twiglett · 11/06/2006 10:00

clarks doodles .. go for the boys ones Grin

Twiglett · 11/06/2006 10:01

Soupy .. you WILL cave .. you WILL you know .. you will be a cornucopia of pink-ness and frills before you know it

DD however wears DS's black boxer shorts with aplomb Grin

GeorginaA · 11/06/2006 10:03

"I will cut BabyDragon's feet off before I let her wear a pair of pink shoes." - famous last words Grin

Clarks service and stock is why we now go to a Jones' Bootmaker shop near us (Elts) which stock Clarks, Startrite and some others and have much better service. We got the Startrite version of doodles this year for ds2 and they're lovely (little snail and spider on them).

SoupDragon · 11/06/2006 10:03

I'm not going to cave in, I can assure you that :o

Of course, I may not actually cut off DDs feet...

GeorginaA · 11/06/2006 10:03

Oh and you lot ... stop making me want a girl :P

mousiemousie · 11/06/2006 10:05

I thought white impractical but I have changed my mind!

It matches with everything and doesn't seem to get scruffy and dirty in summer like you might think Smile.

The best colours round these parts are from european designers in expensive shops!

SoupDragon · 11/06/2006 10:06

I will have her shoes hand made if I have to!

And I may have to if she inherits my thin fipper feet. I seem to remember shoe shopping being a nightmare when I was little and it's not much better now!

Twiglett · 11/06/2006 10:07

aha .. european designers .. DD has a pair of bright red, leather sandals from an Italian designer .. they are to die for and were verrry expensive

however very few clothes actually work with them so she ends up wearing her vomit-pink sandals instead

Fillyjonk · 11/06/2006 10:09

Hmmm...

Have looked at doodles.

Nope, also vile. How can they take a nice concept like flowery shoes and somehow...tackify it? I just don't get it.

Fillyboy is lobbying for some flowery shoes for summer now...

I think i will have to resort to making them myself. Thats what my dad did. It was fine until we went to school...

Startrite's version of Doodles have different designs. Last year DD had some cute ones. They were part green (grass) and part blue (sky). One had a house on and one had a little girl on.

In the winter we always get DD black leather shoes. In the summer she lives in Doodle-type shoes or sandles.

GeorginaA · 11/06/2006 10:14

"if she inherits my thin fipper feet"

Soupy demonstrates the way to casually drop into conversation that she has dainty delicate feet..

sulks and mutters something about never managing to find the wider sizes

Tell me about it, liked only two pairs of shoes in JLP yeaterday, best of a bad bunch, none in her (dd) size, walked out in disgust!

After 50 mins of waiting!! Angry

essbee · 11/06/2006 10:19

They'res nothing wrong with pink! Grin Mind you it's quite hard when you're trying to find sandals for school!

hulababy · 11/06/2006 10:19

DD had these ones last year: \link{http://www.startriteshoes.com/footwear/girls/canvas/lolly_delux.php\Lolly Delux}. They looked good on :)

essbee · 11/06/2006 10:20

essbee: now go write out "there's" twenty times... Grin

hulababy · 11/06/2006 10:21

DD generally has pink now though. She's older and has her own thoughts on it. It is often easier to go with the flow nowadays. This year's favourites are her Lelli Kelly canvas boots and her sandels - she adores them. But think pink, girly, sequins and glittery!

ooooooh, i like the startrite ones. ooooh they're much nicer....

til you get onto prewalkers...and more of the vomit...

my kids just seem to spend their days rolling in mud and throwing food around....pink will not stand up to it, and as for white...

My house was all white once...not any more...

I go for Startrite and Ecco shoes because they generally seem to be more imaginative and less twee than Clarks.

Furthermore, the very 1st time I went to get DD a pair of shoes it was at Clarks and the woman was appallingly rude to me. DD had been walking for a couple of months but only at home .... not in any way capable of walking outside (and we were in the winter). So I'd not yet got her "proper" shoes. Clarks' woman measured her and started tutting and muttering about how wide her feet were and how she didn't have anything (I was looking for Doodles) in her size. She asked me if I'd had the same "problem" before and I told her this was her 1st pair of real shoes. At which she said that's it then, her feet are so wide because you should have put her in real shoes the minute she started walking !!!

My mouth just dropped open and I tried to argue the point that my son's feet are also wide, it runs in the family and isn't caused by wearing soft shoes etc but she just got increasingly rude and made me feel like I was a bad mother. I should have complained to head office as she was the manager, not least because she had no idea about customer service, let alone how to fit a child properly but you know how it is ... the mere thought of that incident made me feel shaky for months after.

We then went to a local Startrite stockist where they were pleasant and helpful and got a pair of canvas shoes (with little girl & house on them) with no problem.

I can remember always having the same issue in Clarks with my son years ago. They simply didn't do wide Doodles and winter shoes amounted to a choice of one. If the "leading" childrens' shoes company can't be bothered to cater for all kids, they can go stuff themselves - and to blame a customer, presumably because she was embarrassed or whatever that they didn't have the right size, is unbelievbable.

It was in Stevenage Mothercare BTW.

Back to the topic, do check out Startrite ..... I bought the little girl & house pair again this year because they go with everything being a micture of pink, green and blue, but I think they also had a few denim styles as well.
