Do NOT attempt to try on a dress a size too small in Miss Selfridge, when there are 6 teenage girls standing directly outside your cubicle, you haven't waxed your bikini line for 7 years and you have stretchmarks up to your armpits, with your toddler...

I knew I was going to make my wedding dress but my most evil bridesmaid fancied the idea of trying on ridiculous frocks for a day

I was in this mad net creation which made me look like I had been built up with chickenwire and plastered over when the zip stuck

we were already snorting at how vile the dress was when we realised we couldn't get the zip down cos it was broken. we had to call the lady and she was so po-faced about it that when she started with the scissors we were shaking with silent laughter so much that she nearly cut a whole in my hip

FrannyandZooey · 08/06/2006 20:13

Piffle that is reassuring, about their sizes. I could not work out what was going on and why I could not squeeze my top half into this bloody dress. I am fairly flat chested so was mystified.

After some successes in Top Shop I got cocky, didn't I? I turned a deaf ear to the hooters, as The Dress was calling Blush

Oh well I guess at least the dress did not have to surgically removed from my body

You know I actually blame PrincessPeaHead for the whole sorry affair Angry Envy

She swanned on here last night with her divine dress and this was just a tragic cry for help on my part really.

Gingerbear · 08/06/2006 20:53

My Word, you were brave, I haven't even ventured into Miss Selfridge for about...oooh, 15 years!

Caligula · 08/06/2006 20:54

Could you not write to someone in the government and suggest you'll be happy to work as a consultant for bringing down teenage pregnancies? You could draw on a wide pool of volunteers who would bravely go into Top Shop and undress in front of... no on second thoughts, I'd need to be paid.

SoupDragon · 08/06/2006 21:01

Snort!

I got stuck in a top once. Squeezed it on, it fitted fabulously and looked great and I could get it off. Until I noticed there was a side zip to undo. God knows how I got it on.

However, this was in the privacy of my own home with a mail order item.

FrannyandZooey · 08/06/2006 21:07
Angry

there she goes, in her ritzy little black and white number

[collapses in an envious heap]

PrincessPeaHead · 08/06/2006 21:12

aren't the beads and ribbons just TOO divine, darling? Wink

Snafu · 08/06/2006 21:13

PPH, I was actually thinking about your gorgeous dress today when I should have been revising the endocrine system.

I know which I prefer, though...

Mercy · 08/06/2006 21:20

I hate those flipping side zips, the number of times I've got my knickers jammed in them, grrr, usually when bursting for a wee, and in public place of course

WelshBoris · 08/06/2006 21:30

franny my granny in miss selfridge

hunkermunker · 08/06/2006 21:31

FAZ...PMSL! Thought this sort of thing only happened to me Grin

I get claustrophic panic attacks if I get stuck in a garment in a changing room - hyperventilation. Very scary!

peachyClair · 08/06/2006 22:09

went into new look yesterday, assistant took a look at me and the size 's i wa carrying, snorted and asked if I'd like a bigger size

Thing was tho, they fit a treat. I bought one, would have bought more but assistant ahd made me feel bad. Did however buy red PVC peep toe 4 inch stilettos Blush

now I must find somewhere to wear them (dress was a polka dot chiffon number, v nech with wide straps and a floaty skirt, v flattering)

handlemecarefully · 08/06/2006 22:20

But teenage girls these days are often 'super sized' any way...you may have looked better than they did?

hunkermunker · 08/06/2006 22:21

Some of them though, HMC - where do they fit their internal organs when they're the circumference of a mini Pringles tube?!

WelshBoris · 08/06/2006 22:24

red PVC peep toe 4 inch stilettos

peachy- those shoes ROCK

handlemecarefully · 08/06/2006 22:24

Yes there are the two types - thin as rake or the reassuringly podgy ones

FrannyandZooey · 08/06/2006 22:37

They were the thin and gorgeous version - all hair and eyes

Piffle · 08/06/2006 23:18

I went into Abercrombie and Fitch while in the US TINY top sizes I am 14 mostly UK in M+S due to big norks - over there nothing, even mens T's where tight.
Was determined so decided to buy some cut off jean type thing I saw and liked
picked up a US 6 and thought this equates to a UK 10 but it looked huge
So asked an EVER so slim youthful pre college type girl for some sizing help, she glanced at me and said oh you have an 8 there right? I said no a 6 but it looks Big, I said I was a 28 in jeans and she said OH You're the same size as me in total horror
YEEHAH
Success
I cought them and I FIT a US 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And You say we doctor UK sizes Grin
