Since the whole 'she-who-must-not-be-named' incident, it feels like we are too wary of having an opinion incase it offends someone.

Reading a thread about a dog, and people are far too scared of upsetting dog owners or non dog owners that they are carefully treading around what they actually want to say. Whatever happened to freedom of speech and understanding that sometimes people have other opinions to those we have ourselves?

Think freedom of speech went out with the court of human rights. Everyone has rights but certainly not the right to be different to anyone else!

tenalady · 07/06/2006 10:10

No I cant say I have noticed it. Ive noticed return comments havent been so cutting but a little more constructive which is a good thing isnt it? Smile

tenalady · 07/06/2006 10:11

expatinscotland · 07/06/2006 10:11

My GP is about to get a dose of free speech from me :o, in the most diplomatic of terms, of course.

Piffle · 07/06/2006 10:11

I think I agree, there has def. been a calming and people are more careful about the way they wrod things trying to be constructive rather then inflamitory - in fact the thing I have noticed most is that people are responding helpfully to the OP (on both sides of an argument) rather than getting side tracked into arguments between themselves.

all of wich is a good thing IMO

Also am not at all sure it is anything to do with the unmentionables, just that MN seems to go through phases like this where everyone gets a bit over the top, it all blows up and then everything calms down againfor a while.

tenalady · 07/06/2006 10:28

There doesnt seem as many folk around like there used to be either. If you look at the threads they dont actually get many hits. Could this be that folk have gotten fed up with unleashed opinions and left mn altogether.

AllieBongo · 07/06/2006 10:28

yes, the sezar thread was pulled after 2 messages.. not even message deleted.. whole chuffing thread deleted

MoM - I think people have said exactly what they think on the dog thread, and the reference to not-offending dog owners was tongue in cheek!

zippitippitoes · 07/06/2006 10:59

I think it's just the sunny weather and half term and no real controversy
