We are wrong about nearly everything, apparently. Are you?

most of the 'facts' that people believe about current affairs are wrong, apparently. Entertaining test from the Guardian's data blog.

I got 9 out of 10 right! I am never wrong Grin

Nagoo · 10/07/2013 13:03

7 out of ten 'slightly divorced from reality'. That'll do pig. I don't want to know everything. I get queasy when I think about current affairs.

So only 3% of people are single parents. I think I was tricked by that question, as it doesn't say what proportion of parents are single, IYSWIM.

I underestimated the number of people with twitter and that vote.

BOF · 10/07/2013 13:07

6 out of 10. I got the important stuff right though Grin

I got those wrong too, Artex. And I overestimated single parents by ten per cent.

HomeHelpMeGawd · 10/07/2013 13:11

Given it's in the Graun, it's quite easy to game and get the right answer... "pick the answer most easily portrayed as confounding a Daily Mail prejudice". I got 8 out of 10 with this method.

lollylaughs · 10/07/2013 13:14

Yes I am all the time - I have a teenager Grin

LauraShigihara · 10/07/2013 13:14

6 out of 10. I thought that single parent question was tricky - I didn't understand what they were asking. Parent completely alone, parent with a new partner?

I overestimated how many children live in poverty and how many voted in the election, because the Guardian keeps telling me that poverty numbers are always underestimated and that not many people bother to vote. So I picked numbers with that in mind and was wildly out.

ThingummyBob · 10/07/2013 13:14

I scored "Not as daft as you look unlike most people" Grin

I underestimated on people voting and the cost of transport v's police one.

ThingummyBob · 10/07/2013 13:15

D'oh 8/10

... clearly am as daft as I look Hmm

edam · 10/07/2013 13:17

I only got 5/10 and there was me, thinking 'ooh, this'll be easy'...

FunnysInLaJardin · 10/07/2013 13:20

6 out of 10 and slightly divorced from reality too

spacegoat · 10/07/2013 13:22

I only got 2 right!! I underestimated most questions. Am sad to find out that 20% of British children are living in poverty.

Snorbs · 10/07/2013 13:44

I got 7/10 which surprised me. I thought I would get fewer right.

Over the last few years I've deliberately tried to avoid as much news as possible. It was genuinely starting to depress me. Now I just skim the headlines to make sure I haven't missed the Queen dying for anything particularly noteworthy and ignore the rest. It has definitely improved my quality of life.

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/07/2013 13:57

6/10. Got the important ones right (is it really important to know how many people have a Twitter account?).

edam · 10/07/2013 22:05

kind of, because newspapers and the rest of the media report twitter reactions to any big news story as if that's news in itself, we need to remember it's a minority.

Abra1d · 10/07/2013 22:08

I got 8/10 by using the 'Confound the Daily Mail' technique, too. In fact, the answers on the 'incendiary' questions are usually the lowest figure, so it's easy.

Hullygully · 10/07/2013 22:12

I got 9/10, but mainly because it already said most people would get it wrong so it was easy to guess

VitoCorleone · 10/07/2013 22:13

I got 3 out of 10 and am apparently "living in cloud cuckoo land"

Confused
FunnysInLaJardin · 10/07/2013 22:15

Hully you are are girly swot

TeWiSavesTheDay · 10/07/2013 22:16

9/10

It was the election question I got wrong - had no idea turnout was decent.

Pascha · 10/07/2013 22:17

8/10 I underestimated the number of children living in poverty.
