My son is 9 and is going on a school trip in april to the isle of wight for 5 days. There will be lots of activities etc and he is really looking forward to it.But as time gets closer I have started to dread it and am really worried about him being away for so long.I know I am being irrational but it is starting to worry me non stop .Has anyone else been through this?

Please try not to worry. Didn't you go on a trip at about that age? I did and loved every minute of it.

Both my older children have done this and they had a whale of a time. It does them good to learn to be a little independent. You wouldn't want him to be clingy when he is 18, but he has to get there gradually.

Thanks he isnt clingy at all and is always off on sleepovers etc with friends in fact we sometimes dont see him for days! But this has really got to me

noddy5, it's something i worry about already and my dd is only 2
I have no real advice but i try to think what Janstar said! I went away at that age! I hope you get some better advice/reassurance, just wanted to empathise a tad

Angeliz - lol, it's not just me then. My dd is only 18 months and I already worry about school trip scenarios, what I'll do when she first wants to go into town on her own etc.....

Noddy5 - is it worth just having a word with a sympathetic teacher and articulating your fears...so that you can get the reassurance that he will be properly supervised / looked after etc?
