Nothing more than the odd raffle prize etc.
But was listening to Steve Wright this afternoon and there was a guy on there has won BIG on the lottery TWICE. Around £9million altogether. Now how does that happen?

Lisa78 · 02/02/2004 20:23

Dunno Posey, but I don't suppose you have his name and address do you?

saffy981 · 02/02/2004 20:30

Ok - I admit - my name is saffy and I am a comperholic
Have yet to win a car or a holiday ( thou I once won a trip to Eurodisney, but it entailed driving from Holland to France, and hubby refused to contemplate it!). I have however won DVD Player, £500 Boots vouchers, PS2, 2 Dreamcasts, cash, VIP tickets to footie matches, a chance for my eldest to train with Shearer and loads of other small things. Keep a lot of the stuff I win for Xmas and saves me a fortune thou I still can't resist buying more!!

Janh · 02/02/2004 20:43

Posey · 02/02/2004 20:51

Lisa - the lottery guy was wanting advice on emigrating to South Africa. Probably to escape all the women who suddenly wanted to marry him

Furball · 02/02/2004 21:10

I've won a footspa, £500 on premium bonds, tickets for a Pet Shop Boys concert including a back stage pass to meet them afterwards. I can tell you are all jealous, not! PS I've also had loads of phonecalls telling me I've won a holiday - does that count. Oh, and my dh says I've won his hand in marriage. Can you tell, I'm just lucky, lucky, lucky LOL.

Ailsa · 02/02/2004 23:33

I won the inter-house cross country when I was 14, and 800m on sports day. Nothing that involves a prize though.

I have won some maternity clothes, a video tape, 2 nights in a luxury apartment, cinema tickets, a magazine subscription, a bag and probably some other stuff that I can't remember. I enter competitions online all the time, and probably win about 1% of the time which isn't bad.

Rhubarb · 03/02/2004 09:41

We've been having a roll of luck lately. dd won a leapfrog shopping trolley in a colouring competition for the ELC. Then I won £35 of vouchers for a kiddies clothes site from MN, and also a box full of Hasbro toys, also from MN! This is VERY unusual for me as normally we never win a dickiebird. It just proves my theory though that luck is a virus, you have to 'catch' it first. They have proved that if you are close to a lucky person then your luck improves too, that's 'cause you've caught the virus from them. Bad luck is the same. It can last for days so if you do catch some luck, make the most of it, but if you catch bad luck, just stay indoors with a nice cup of tea!

wilbur · 03/02/2004 09:50

I had a temp job one summer on reception at an advertising agency and they got every paper and magazine delivered every day. I entered all the competitions I could and won some books and tapes, a weekend at a health farm, a year's supply of tea (I was very popular back at Uni for that one ) plus a lovely bone china tea set which I have been lugging around with me ever since. I also got some jewellery which was horrid and various other smal runner up things. I think it was just the volume of competitions that I entered, I must have done hundreds! I keep entering things online, but haven't been lucky for ages, which is a shame as I could really do with a holiday in the Caribbean...

Beccarollover · 03/02/2004 09:52

Does anyone have any link to good comp sites I WANT TO WIN SOMETHING!!

OP posts:
pie · 03/02/2004 12:31

M2T · 03/02/2004 12:35

Unbeknown to me I had won last weeks Mumsnet competition!!!!!
Only found out just now. So yes I have won something.

oliveoil · 03/02/2004 13:11

I have never won anything whatsoever, not even a sachet of handcream when there was 10,000 up for grabs. Harrumph. I have lived a charmed life however with nothing bad ever happening to me so maybe I have done something good somewhere and my lottery win is round the corner.

dinosaur · 03/02/2004 13:17

I won a clock radio in a raffle about 15 years ago. It still works. I've never won anything else.

Momof2 · 03/02/2004 13:17

I once won a trip around a house that belonged to a Lord and Lady, but they couldn't make the date and their son the Earl of somewhere showed me round. I remember my Mum being really po-ed with me as the son was an eligible batchelor and I took a boyfriend (of course he would have been interested in me!) Still was a lovely day -- even got dinner served by the butler.

Tortington · 03/02/2004 13:21

nope not a bean, when people usually say that they mean oh - yeah i win the occasional raffle or something - but nope not a sausage. im the only one who goes to a school fate and isnt complaining about the crap i am bringing home - because i dont even win on school fate raffles. not even a bottle of vinager

Thomcat · 03/02/2004 13:43

LOL re handcream Oliveoil!

I won my first EVEr competition the other day - on Mumsnet i won a sleeping bag for Lottie.

I work in PR and we set up competiton quite a lot in mags. Someone won a holiday comp I'd organised once and rang up to say he didn't want to go to New york thank you very much! WHAT!
Another time this ladt won a walk on part in Wire in the Blood that I was promoting at the time and rang to say she couldn't go because she was looking after Vera's dogs!!! It's a crazy old world!

Cam · 03/02/2004 13:57

I won a car a few millenia ago when I was a student, it was the naffest comp ever in Woman or Woman's Own (my granny used to pass them on to me - thanks!) and you had to match the menu or meal with the event. I only entered it because the answers seemed so obvious. As I couldn't afford to run a car at the time, I sold it and lived well for the rest of my student days and didn't come out of them in debt. Pretty lucky, huh?
