Anybody know how to find work as a Publishers reader? (i.e. to be paid to read as yet unpublished manuscripts and then write a report giving an opinion on them - a way of 'market testing' new books)

If you have specialist knowledge in a particular subject, you could contact a specialist publisher, and offer your services. Tbh - like lots of things in publishing - it depends on having the contacts first. Dh does quite a lot of this sort of thing too. I've been offered readers' reports, but it's quite poorly paid, and IME it's quite a difficult thing to do well.

Thanks Roisin,

I guessed that it might be a case of contacting them rather than hoping to see something in Situations Vacant! Think I might send a short letter with very abridged CV....

Not too bothered that it isn't brilliantly well paid - just looking for something I can do to keep my brain ticking over iyswim
