advice please iv sedation

ds is having iv sedation tomorrow. just filled in the form and it said he can't eat/drink for 6 hours before. But he can have some water 2 hours before. Not worried about food as its at 9.30 so will let him lay in. but why is it water can he not have squash...curious really.(he's 14 by the way so will accept it)

Water only is generally better because it tends to make them less nauseated and it can cause less complications should other problems arise. I may be worng on this as I transferred over to adult nursing 81/2 years ago and this is what the departments tell us.hth??
