sewing people - do you sew? i need some advice

ok, earth mother i am not. ds has a prom in a couple of weeks and i dont have new suit money - so i bought one off ebay and got it very wrong.

so the jacket is really big 44" and ds is 38/40

can it be taken in? and how much is it likley to cost for a seamstress ( yellow pages prolly)

i thought it could be taken in - but have been told its much to big to take that much in is this true?

help. me am skintish and he wants tolook really good

Without having seen the jacket it does sound like it's too big to be taken in decently, clothes lose their shape if you take them in too much. Does it have lining??? You could ask at your local laundry they sometiems offer alterations.

I've just asked my sil and she said it's probably best to either look in the yellow pages for a seamstress or if you are in Manchester to go into Granada Dry cleaners in town, North John st I think and they might know of someone who can help. She said companies like Johnsons will probably say it's too much work and be too expensive if they did take it on.

its for my ds hes a 30 waist and a 38/40 chest

its for his prom

he now wants me to buy him a new one he has seem in brighton for £175 - said he would pay me back when he starts workin june.

but its .....£175!!!

It is a job for an expert. Only trouble with that is that it will be pricey and you dont know how good it will look until its too late.Is the length ok? because if that needs altering too then I dont reckon it will be worth it.
How about selling it again on ebay and buying one thats a better fit? That might be quicker too.

thanks guys - i am going to re sell it. ds has promised to work next week at his future place of employment - and give me the money towards his brand new suit.

have to discuss this with dh - but thats the way it is going to go!
