Does anyone know of a good, not too expensive one (or has some good deals on at the moment) that is relatively close to London? He was thinking of fairly simple, a quiet clutter free environment with maybe sauna and swim possibilites.

DH has stayed (with me) at Forest Mere a few times and enjoyed it. Still biased towards women but several men on their own there when I've been. Men only spa area (sauna/steam/plunge pool/relaxation area and joint swimming, loads of treatment, walks, cycling and golf can be arranged close by.

Thanks StressyHead, will check out Expedia, 150% where is Forest Mere, and charlie+3, thanks, but I was thinking of something that had facilities so he could stay a couple of days rather than a health club.
Done to deserve it.... well it is more that he is at a kind of emotional crossroads re: job and where life is going and needs a few uninterrupted days to consider it / work out figures etc. I think some top quality rest (without the 6:30 wake up call!) will help too. Difficult, because I can feel that he is going through something and I don't know exactly how to help him. It isn't major major, but it is disturbing and not getting resolved - we do talk, but I don't think I am the one who can help him with this.

CAn recommend 'teh vineyeard' near Reading. Went with DH for w/e and as have huge wine cellars and great restaurant were plenty of males there. Haev pool, saunas and treatments etc. Check out lastminute.com, haev also booked similar w/e's through there.
