Oh agree with the nappies- swapped back from Pampers Shock last week, much better on DS3

They do these little croissants with milky filling, they're not the healthiest ever but the boys adore them for Sundayy brekkie. Also their pain au chocolat- yum!

intergalacticwalrus · 16/05/2006 20:10

Smoked salmon at 1.99. Bloody lovely.

JanH · 16/05/2006 20:15

Boring household products like binliners, lightbulbs, matches, loo wipes.
Probiotic yog drinks, plain or orange.
Various other yogurty drinks (esp a peach one with bran in but it hasn't been there the last few times I went)
Chilled ready meals like Chicken Jalfrezi (if you look at the ingredients list there is nothing in it but food)
Also the curry sauces
And the pasta sauces
Various juices
Hi-juice squash
Tinned tuna
Other tinned fish like herring and salmon
Peppers
Vine toms

Can't think what else just now

Lidl is great. I am always surprised at how empty our local one is. I bought a huge pineapple for 49p today. Bargain!

Buddhamummy · 16/05/2006 20:29

they do the best frozen tuna steaks by far!!! they even got the approval from my mil!!! we did giggle though as she pronounced it " oh lie dells, isnt that the continental food mart!" my sisters and i have been po eversince and now only ever refer to "lie dells!"

tallmummy · 16/05/2006 20:29

Just been today bought nappies and pull ups and the most delicious chocolate chip brioch cakes called choky doky - have just eaten two!! Also tasty fruity fromage frais and big pack sliced gouda.

Buddhamummy · 16/05/2006 20:31

oo oo and the creamiest potatoe salad mmmm

MrsMuddle · 16/05/2006 21:44

The best thing ever is the bag of mini (very mini) croissants filled with apricot jam. Delicious. Also, love the cold meat and even the make-up is good - well, the powder and mascara, anyway.

aelita · 16/05/2006 21:46

Lebkuchen - mmmmm.......

giddy1 · 16/05/2006 22:09

Im a convert as well after seeing some of the threads on mumsnet!!!!!!!!!

I have found some great bargains like a large wooden plant container with trellis for under £15 that looks like I spent a fortune on it.

Walking boots that are so far as good as my last pair at a quarter of the price

A cool box for £4.99 (last week) that works a treat as a seat .....great for days out.

Now when I go in a tesco store I feel like I am being a bit unfaithful

milge · 16/05/2006 22:33

prepacked ham - very little water content
Extra Virgin olive oil
Jams
deli counter
dishwasher tablets
household cleaners
fruit and veg - not always class I but at that price, does it matter?
kitchen roll
balsam tissues
tinned grilled aubergines and peppers
gherkins
fruit juice

The colour bio washing powder I bought made me itch, so i'll be sticking to persil.
The cien nappies gave dd a very red bum, so again, not for me, but the price is good.
I wouldn't buy fresh meat from there and some things like pasta, tinned toms etc, are about the same price as Tesco's.

mummylovesus · 16/05/2006 22:39

my sil was just telling me what great value the fruit and veg is in lidl and I asked her what their poultry and meats are like - she doesn't know, can any one tell me what they are like?

giddy1 · 17/05/2006 10:48

I would be happier to buy their meat than Tesco but this is all we have tried
Chicken ..good
steak ....good
Lamb......good
Sausages .brilliant
burgers Too salty
Mince.....Horrible and very gristley
I prefer the local butcher to be honest.
Pies and pasties are also very good.
I found the pate loads too salty but maybe that is only since we have cut it out of our diet as much as possible.

moneysavingexpert.com has a list of all things recommended from Aldi, Lidl and Netto
\link{http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1139914268,92033,\what's hot and what's not}

ProfYaffle · 17/05/2006 11:08

All my favourites are already listed, i'm veggie so can't really comment on the meat but other people have told me their sausages are good. I'd happily buy anything of theirs, the only things I've been disappointed with are Naan bread (funny crumbley texture), 3 in 1 dishwasher tabs (left streaks, but the seperate stuff is fine) and I think the yoghurts taste a bit artificial, i stick to yeo valley.

I'm not really a ready meal/freezer type of person but I really like their pre-prepared food, much nicer than the average supermarket imho.

peachyClair · 17/05/2006 12:50

DH likes the ready meals, he works nights in the cold and they can't t ake hom prepared stuff in to reheat (am I making excuses? I ahte ready meals LOL) and he says these are nice.

Just remembered they do these little pots of fryuit compote. They do have sugar in, but two of mne are dairy intol, and they do love them. Peach and pear flavour I think. Same size as yogs, so ideal for lunches.

Rojak · 17/05/2006 13:24

Mini profiteroles in the freezer - nice on it's own or make your own choc / caramel sauce to go over

seb1 · 19/05/2006 20:10
