Is dental insurance worth it? Has anyone had problems claiming from their policy for treatment etc. I will be seeing a private dentist. I have a number of old fillings. Apart from that my teeth are okay. Thanks.

HSA, PPP & Boots all do claim back insurance. I haven't used it, but having been in the dental business for 15 years have had my fair share of claim forms to fill in. I haven't come across any one who have experienced problems with their insurance. If you ever have your filling changed just because they are old, you may not be able to claim, I think there needs to a clinical reason (like leakage etc). Deffinilty worth it tho, especially when you are paying the high prices of private treatment.

With Denplan your dentist needs to be part of the scheme for you to use it AFAIA.

Aren't you tied to a particular dentist with Denplan? Am considering HSA. Are you covered for replacing old fillings or would those be pre-exisiting conditions they don't cover? Thanks melissasmuimmy and ks.

Think you can go to any Denplan registered dentist and it also covers emergencies abroad. It covers replacing fillings (dh has just had a couple redone) and we've never had a problem getting treatment, although not had crowns ro cosmetic work done. Just had to put the kids onto it too.

They would cover it if you had fillings replaced as they were leaking, but don't think they would if just old. Many old fillings can still be in good condition & often dentist will not remove good fillings as each time the cavity needs to be made bigger & you lose more toth structure.

You would have to read small print to find out.
