Dear all, I will be moving from a flat (horizontal) to a house with a set of stairs to the second floor (where the bedrooms are). I am worried about my DC who is almost 3 years old - she already climbs stairs well but on a daily basis?? It seems to me quite dangerous...what do you think? Am I worrying too much?

if she's not used to them you have to teach her so she's safe.

she must learn to hold onto the railing/bars or whatever is available - a simple rope attached to hold on is good enough.

she'll adjust, don't worry.

We love in a firstfloor walkup flat and DS 1 will be 3 in July. We spent a lot of time last year teaching him to be safe, hold the side, go down on his bottom one step at a time etc. He is competent now to the point that I don't worry about him on steps any more. It did take time, but is very possible.

She'll just learn how to do it. I live in Australia in what the Australians call a two story house. I'm the only one of my friends who has stairs and when I first got here I couldn't believe the great big children who were coming round to play that couldn't manage stairs very well at all, as they had just been in them in shops and things!

Teach her how to go up & down safely. My DD has been doing it without help from around 18 months (with us there though!)

I didn't even bother getting the stairgate out with my third baby. He worked it all out by himself!
