Morning everybody!
I'm almost ashamed to be asking this question, as my ds is only 3!, but has anybody got any suggestions for a first birthday present?
The baby in question belongs to a very important friend, who was my birthing partner and who helped me through a very difficult time when my ds was first born.
I know I will never be able to repay her kindness, but want to buy her baby something special.
Although I keep in touch with the family, I moved a long way away from the area when my ds was only a few months old and have (sadly) never met the baby, he has two fantastic parents and wants for nothing in the way of toys and clothes.
What could I give the baby who has everything?!!!
Thank you! Smile

what do you mean by special? something they can keep for life?? or a special toy

family photographer? (not venture .. a contemporary photographer who does natural family shots)

I was given an antigue book called 10,000 questions your children might ask (or something like that) and I love it and it is great fun to read and chat about with the kids..Must do that again soon!

Hi Twiglett

Yes, Something other than toys or clothes that he will grow out of. Something a bit different.

Also, living so far away, it's not so easy to take things back to the shop if they're not right.

The family photographer sounds a great idea - I don't think it's something they would have already thought of.

Thank you for your suggestions. Keep them coming!! Smile

if you want soemthing a little different then why not a plant/tree/rose?

For both our DD's baptisms we were bought rose bushes.

Thanks Beety, a book sounds like another great idea!! Next I'll be starting a thread asking how to choose between all the great suggestions!

Kicking myself that
a.) I didn't think of these and
b.) I can't remember what my ds received for his first birthday. He got some lovely things but they were clothes and necessities that we needed at the time.

what is child's name .. you could see if you can find a tree / rose in his name and give them that

Twiglett · 14/05/2006 09:47

don't do the 'name a star' thing though

you could do a keepsake book of the year he was born ... news / jokes / thoughts of the future .. a kind of time capsule ?

Daisyb00 · 14/05/2006 10:00

Sorry about the delay there - family crisis - Power Ranger missing, presumed fallen down the side of the bed....

Baby's name is Tom.

Time capsule and planting something are really good ideas too. I guess I could order a rose bush online and have it delivered down there. She would have to plant it herself, as she stays in the south of England and I am in the north of Scotland. Shouldn't think she would mind though?!

When Tom was born, I simply asked her what she needed and she told me exactly what to buy. This time I thought I should use my (or MNers) imagination!! Thank you for all your ideas.
