How many of us actually meet Shona's little sidekicks criteria?
She states that all of us on Mumsnet are in our 30s, living in London and have a degree. How many people here meet that criteria?
How many are popping prozac depressed at the shit life we now have with kids?
Damn that woman is nasty!

Willdoitinaminute · 13/04/2013 22:58

40+ long way from London but I do have a degree. Bit of a lurker but love some of the intelligent 'discussions' and entertained by the rest.

ellajayne · 13/04/2013 23:09

Not me.

In my 20's.
Not in London.
No Prozac.
No degree.

  1. London. Degree & postgrad. WOHM. No hobnobs or Boden, but lots of lovely pills Grin

I think people (this journalist, Amanda Holden, whoever else, I don't really keep track) who slag off Mumsnet don't really understand it because they have not spent enough time exploring it and getting to know it. I think there's something here for almost everyone. And I think almost evyone can learn something from it.

What has struck me is how diverse we all are. I really wonder what holds us all together?

I think the main thing we all have in common is that we are all strong, smart women (and men) with good senses of humour, who like debate and provide mutual support when needed. Obv there are exceptions to the rule, but this is the closest I have been able to come to figuring out the "pulse" of a MNer....

ticklycough · 14/04/2013 12:52

Amazing how many people like to show off on this thread...
who cares how many degrees you have or where you live?
Daily Mail has a lot to answer for and Shona's article is actually quite a vindictive and accusatory piece of writing. But by doing it she's just proved she can be as judgemental and self righteous as some posters on here!
Women meh....I can see why men moan about us sometimes...

K8Middleton · 14/04/2013 12:55

What a stupid post ticklycough. I'm not sure why you bothered.

Theicingontop · 14/04/2013 12:56

They were mentioning their degrees in response to the article, Ticklycough. They weren't pulling random facts about themselves out of their arses.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/04/2013 12:56

Well, I for one wasn't showing off. Smile

I said I have a degree. Technically, I have three (one honorary and two real), and I'm doing the fourth.

Now I'm showing off.

See how different it looks?

And get your knee-jerk sexism right, please - men don't moan, they are too busy being inarticulate and manly while playing with power tools and not having emotions.

HTH.

Xenia · 14/04/2013 13:00

I have not shown off on the thread.... [I did not mention the private island I own in the Pacific or my educational qualifications or even the nicest thing to show off about the lovely large family combined with working full time - if you want showing off I am sure people can do it but it is not really in the nature of the English to do so - we self deprecate]. I don't think saying you have a degree is showing off (all kinds of people get degrees these days) and giving age and where you live is not exactly showing off.

What most of us are not is sexist (I hope) and plenty of us are feminist and want to drive sexism and sexist comments off the planet.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/04/2013 13:02

Nicely done.

My diamond shoes are too tight, as well.

ticklycough · 14/04/2013 13:04

Blimey...sorry I only have the one degree so maybe my opinion isn't worthy enough for me to post?

I guess you're uptight about the issue because it's touched a nerve perhaps?

Anyways, LRD feminist dragon (what does LRD stand for by the way?) that's quite a sweeping generalisation about men you've just made.
Knee-jerk sexism you say? Erm I don't think so, just an observation :-)

Lucyellensmum95 · 14/04/2013 13:07

LRD - you have an honorary degree?? Wow - are you, like, famous? apart from being the mnet wise owl of course? I'm very impressed.

Xenia what i want to know is when we, as long term mnetters, are going to get an invite to this island Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/04/2013 13:08

Yes, my post about men was totally my opinion, for reals, what with the heavily signposted sarcasm in there.

Nobody gives a flying fuck whether you've got a degree or nine, or an island, or a cottage in the woods with Jon Snow's hunky big brother waiting to rub your feet and sing you love songs.

This thread is just someone being curious whether we fit the stereotype that someone has of MN. And it seems we pretty much don't.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/04/2013 13:09

LEM - nope, not remotely famous, and in this context 'honorary' means 'crap'. You get it for graduating and not going to prison for the following four years.

Lucyellensmum95 · 14/04/2013 13:09

oh and LRD if you are an academic, i doubt you can afford diamond shoes :-)

I have one degree and a PhD - i don't have a job though so im not sure my opinion count either.

I don't like hobnobs and i don't think they make boden in my size!

Lucyellensmum95 · 14/04/2013 13:10

Grin LRD, thats some achievement!

Lucyellensmum95 · 14/04/2013 13:10

That sounds a bit sarky, wasn't meant to be - intrigued now :)

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/04/2013 13:11

Now that is true tragedy (hobnobs). How can you enjoy cheesecake? Shock

Anyhow, I am changing my mind, I think I do care about the cottage and Jon Snow's big brother.

Still don't give a toss about the island or the education.

I also don't have a job. Bugger.

Lucyellensmum95 · 14/04/2013 13:14

I don't know who Jon Snow is, or his big brother.

Because i make them with digestives? Actually i don't make them but i always make sure that there is a little note "no hobnobs were used in the making of this cheesecake"

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/04/2013 13:16

Here you are: gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Jon_Snow

Not the elderly (but doubtless very pleasant) TV presenter of the same name, which I realize could cause an unexpected image of the above scenario.

He's a character out of Game of Thrones and very pretty. IMHO.

Digestives in cheesecake would be nice, yes ...

Lucyellensmum95 · 14/04/2013 13:26

oooh, he looks like a younger, prettier version of my DP!! Does that count as boasting??

Am going to have to buy cheesecake now

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/04/2013 13:26
Envy

Now that is truly disgusting boasting.
