How many of us actually meet Shona's little sidekicks criteria?
She states that all of us on Mumsnet are in our 30s, living in London and have a degree. How many people here meet that criteria?
How many are popping prozac depressed at the shit life we now have with kids?
Damn that woman is nasty!

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 13/04/2013 18:13

If she thinks all Mumsnetters look the same and dress in a certain Bodenesque way...

For someone who objects to others focusing on her appearance she has clearly not taken the high road herself.

ijustwanttobeme · 13/04/2013 18:49

I don't fit the stereotype either:

age: 46
no degree- just about scraped some O Levels Grin
no Boden - wouldn't suit me, as am 5' and a bit of an odd shape ...

no ADs - although GP did prescribe them once, but never got them
live in Surrey - but only in chav town of Sutton, not naice part like Guildford etc
not really a fan of hob nobs -chocolate digestive is more my thing
I do iron though, but only cos it's the only household chore I don't mind doing

PetiteRaleuse · 13/04/2013 18:51

She's not miffed. She is just writing what the Fail want her to write. They are miffed.

lemonmuffin · 13/04/2013 18:58

I can kind of see her point. If you read the quotes she's mentioned, there's some pretty vile stuff being said about her there. No wonder she's pissed off.

Yes I'm looking at you Abs

Yonionekanobe · 13/04/2013 19:12

30s, London, shop at Waitrose to top up delivery from Riverford, Labour voter, Guardian reader, two degrees and a professional qualification.

But no pills, no Boden and no Hobnobs.

I'd never heard of this woman before this thread...

inadreamworld · 13/04/2013 19:45

Am in 30s, was living in London until very recently and would like to move back there one day soon and I do have a degree!!! Not on any dodgy pills though

inadreamworld · 13/04/2013 19:46

And definitely no money for designer clothes

reastie · 13/04/2013 19:56

Angry to the comments. Clearly made by someone who hasn't actually looked much at mn and has misinformed opinions.

Having said that. I'm 30's, live just outside zone 6 of London, have a degree and am on anti anxiety meds and have taken prozac in the past Confused

missorinoco · 13/04/2013 20:05

Xenia, do you not think the Times is dummed down compared with several years ago though. I ditched it in a huff when the News Review had an article on Helen Mirren and how great she looked at fifty on the front page. Yes, she looked great, but Angry there's so much more to her and women than that.

In answer to the OP, I also don't fit the MN stereotype. I refuse to hit on a DM link to see exactly what that is meant to be, but from the posts above, er, no.

ivehadaverybadday · 13/04/2013 20:14

In my 30's, live in London, two degrees and am on AD's. Bingo Grin! I also read the Guardian, did BLW and am an extended breastfeeder. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it DM journalist.

ivehadaverybadday · 13/04/2013 20:16

Ooooh but I don't wear Boden (not my style at all). I also don't shop at Waitrose, but only because there isn't one close to my house. I would if I could..

JugglingFromHereToThere · 13/04/2013 20:16

Yes I've noticed a change with The Times in recent years - certainly compared to the more independent newspaper I grew up with pre 1981 (Rupert Murdoch take-over)
I think you have to look to The Independent or The Guardian, or indeed the FT, for more independent & thoughtful discussion.
Though personally I prefer getting my news from programmes like Newsnight - very good last night with 3 women economists discussing with Kirsty Walsh, and a look at sexual violence during conflict.

louisianablue2000 · 13/04/2013 20:27

No tea drinking, hobnob eating, london living 30something here. Hey, I'm old enough to remember watching Thirtysomething. 2 degrees and lots of Boden though (it's what passes for chic up north). Judgmental? Oh yes, especially about people who smack their children and write articles about how great it is it in the Daily Mail.

AlfalfaMum · 13/04/2013 20:47

I am in my 30's, that's my only qualification for this stereotype. I mostly love my life with kids.
In what kind of mind are any of those bad things? I'd love to live in London again, I'd love to have a degree, and I don't see any shame in trying to get better if you're depressed.

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 13/04/2013 20:48

30s, East Midlands, 2 degrees, 1 DC, WOHM. No hobnobs, but I do wear Boden (sourced mainly from eBay), and I'd never heard of Boden until I starteded lurking on MN!

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 13/04/2013 20:52

And there really isn't an amorphous mass that is mumsnet. The threads are incredibly diverse and I have met with much sympathy, empathy and kindness, and made some real friends. I tend to keep away from AIBU though, cos that's where the real nastiness can surface and I'm hard enough.

DamselWithADulcimer · 13/04/2013 21:02

What's the big thing about Hobnobs? This is why MN is so annoying.

notsoyoniface · 13/04/2013 21:24

The only thing that applies to me is taking anti depressants, but that is because I suffer from mental illness. I have found great solace on the mh boards especially when I hit rock bottom.

Other than that, I am 27, live in the South East not London , no kids, no degree i'm working on it

Not that I feel as though I need to justify myself and why I am here to a talent less hack.

DamselWithADulcimer · 13/04/2013 21:38

Ah. Ok. I think that what gets me is that people are actually feeling that they have to justify themselves on here as a result of a silly article. 'Oh, no, I don't really eat Hobnobs, we're all different on MN, honestly...'

thornrose · 13/04/2013 21:47

Do you really believe we are taking the Hobnobs comment seriously?

DamselWithADulcimer · 13/04/2013 21:47

I think it irritates me because it's so obvious that MN isn't one size fits all (though I personally think it's full of annoying lefties), and people are falling into the DM trap of 'let's get a response out of them'...

HorryIsUpduffed · 13/04/2013 21:54

Weirdly, because I defected here from elsewhere, I find MN very right-wing. If you want lefties, you need to look at other parenting forums Babycentre
