Is this rude?

Say a regular poster wanted to start their own discussion board, wasn't planning on advertising it here but did mention it to the other posters she felt friendly with and they liked and and used it, probably in conjuction with posting here. Well would that be out of order? Do you only post on Mumsnet? Would you post on another board if you wanted to or not out of loyalty?

I do occasionally post on another site - BabyWorld. I prefer MN though and did hear of it via a different site which I now never use.

have to say that I love the way MN is presented and find the threads much easier to navigate than other sites I ahve used. Active Conversations and Last Day are the two views I normally use.

BekkiKay · 25/01/2004 16:14

I use lots of different sites, but this is my base site, its like home
Theres nothing more annoying than having to be careful about what you say on sites. Theres a huge 'freezing' problem going on at another site and its driving me mad, I'd rather stay here where we don't get a slap on the wrist for acknowledging that other sites exist.
I don't think its rude at all btw.

Good luck to anyone who is thinking of setting up any knid of business....
Just because you shop at a corner shop, doesnt mean that you can't work in a supermarket!!

emmatmg · 25/01/2004 16:21

While I was PG with DS3 I used Mumsnet, UKP and Bounty, although 'we' came out the clear winner
by a very long shot.
However since the young man was born I have been almost totally loyal to MN. I've looked at UKP about half a dozen times and not at all at Bounty, infact I removed them from my favourites a while ago.

It's wierd as I know I would recommend MN on other parenting sites(if I used them) but I would never do the same from here. So I suppose I am a bit rude but not in a bad way

tamum · 25/01/2004 17:36

I don't think it would be out of order, and although I like a lot about the MN format, I do prefer the way the eBay discussion boards are laid out, in that you can put hypertext links just by copying the URL, and you can post pics directly and so on. Having said that, I think the content of the MN discussions is vastly superior to any other I've looked at. I would say go for it assuming it would work in conjunction with mn (not that I'm angling for an invite, you understand )

The one thing with other sites I have used are the way they are paranoid about you mentioning other sites. I had a message removed from BW for giving someone the website for Tumble Tots - she had aasked how to get info about it. It was removed as Tumble Tots site apparantly has it's own forums. Checked them and they are nowhere near like normal parenting boards. Seemed really OTT.

popsycal · 25/01/2004 21:36

sue - i know the post that you mean....

kiwisbird · 25/01/2004 21:59

I too am refugee from BW, getting ridiculous in there, a woman had her post removed driecting people who cared to her dead daughters memorial page, hosted by another parenting site.
Disgusting, just wiped like that no apologies or attempt to help the situation at all.

Hulababy · 25/01/2004 22:01

I read that Kiwisbird - seemed very insenstive. I think BW has just changed their rules on posting about other sites as a result - there was a message up their last week. Not sure what it is though.

pie · 25/01/2004 22:03

So most of you already post at more than one board? Though not necessarily with the same frequency.

SueW -- does your surname end in "ett", and did you used to live near Nottingham? I have long thought it was you who first told me about NCT Nearly New Sales on mkp, about 4.5 years ago!!

Open access and vulnerable to spamming & trolling there, among other problems.

This may be unfairly kind (!) but Mumsnet is a much better educated & informed group than I usually encounter online. People use the search facilities and read then build on old threads which is refreshing 'coz the same questions don't crop up again and again and again.... It's culturally British and even though I'm not, I live here and it's my 'home' culture now. Plus the 'Talk' threads are laid out well and the way conversations move up the list on MN was novel to me (some chat-sites, er UKP!, are much more kludgy to use). It's busy, too, without being too busy.

I'm not sure that another site has as much to offer and could lure me away for long.

Ok for those of you who expressed an interest in my new hobby, let me know if you are really curious and I'll let you in on my secret. pie(at)sabian(dot)net. But carry on as usual if your not interested
