As you are all prob aware I follow the Gf routine and am also on her website and this was posted for us to see.

Dear Members,

In response to your emails regarding the statement in The Times Newspaper on 9th May 2006. We would like to confirm that neither Gina or her lawyers have put pressure on Mumsnet regarding the criticism that her methods receive on their forums. Gina was forced to seek legal
advice regarding other very serious issues with Mumsnet, and we will in the near future make a public statement as to her reasons for this. It would appear that some Mumsnet members are demanding a ban of the
Gina Ford name on the site. Gina herself would welcome this, as her forthcoming statement will confirm, she has for very valid reasons, no wish to be associated with the Mumsnet site.

I followed the contented little baby routine for the first two weeks and I am ashamed of the fact that I left my new born crying without comforting him, except to check his swaddle during every daytime nap.
I felt this experience interferred with my initall bonding experience and made me feel inadequate and very depressed.

I read dr H karps book and starting cuddling my baby. I breast fed him to sleep and held him when he wanted held. He is a very contended little baby who sleeps through the night and has the ability to sleep without me as a sleep cue.

I would never again use Gina fords routine nor reccommend it to another mother.
I have no set routine in my life so why should I try to put my baby into one!

ruty · 12/05/2006 13:52

Why don't new mothers just contact La Leche League? They have local volunteers [unpaid] nation wide and they are just brilliant and clued up on latest scientific research. They helped me and ds so much in early months.

Dior · 12/05/2006 13:53

I always used to bf ds to sleep, because he always fell asleep during his last feed! I used to worry that I was 'making a rod for my own back' in the sleep stakes. However, he goes to bed like an angel, so it didn't affect him long-term.

beety · 12/05/2006 13:53

i don't think it is Tinker

GamelanCarrier · 12/05/2006 13:55

tinker - it is in th second edition (2002) and the advice anout topping up with formula is in her Top Tips book that I saw for sale in Whsmiths the other day

ruty · 12/05/2006 13:55

i think you'll find that the phrase CLB belongs to GF chapsmum. Grin
I did wonder if AC was GF too....

Tinker · 12/05/2006 13:57

It's the "insisting" bit that's also No comment. Suggesting formula is done by many (misinformed) but well-meaning people but "insisting" ???

morningpaper · 12/05/2006 13:58

AC doesn't seem to have any kind of obvious trace on Google

which is odd for someone in charge of a large and popular website

GamelanCarrier · 12/05/2006 13:59

Tinker - Gina knows best

Flum · 12/05/2006 14:01

Brilliant a new swear word

hunkermunker · 12/05/2006 14:01

I can't say what I think about mothers being pressured into giving formula.

But I will leave a gap in which you can imagine what I want to say.

(not a big enough gap, but other people have things they'll want to say, I'm sure)

Tinker · 12/05/2006 14:02

lol mp - have been Googling her as well. Even trying both on b4u site.

morningpaper · 12/05/2006 14:02

hunker Grin

hunkermunker · 12/05/2006 14:02

Who was it who suggested a T-shirt with "It's my back, I'll make a rod for it if I bleeding well want to" on the front?

monkeytrousers · 12/05/2006 14:04

It's Truby King all over again, isn't it??

morningpaper · 12/05/2006 14:04

was that me?

"It's my rod and my fcking back so piss off"

chapsmum · 12/05/2006 14:05

hmmm, ruty!
In that case he must be a:

contented petite buby???

expatinscotland · 12/05/2006 14:10

'Baby boot camp'?! WTF?! The concept alone is just disgusting.

ruty · 12/05/2006 14:11

you've got to think of another word for 'contented' chapsmum, sorry. Wink
Baby boot camp. Oh. My. God. Wonder why it was cancelled?

chapsmum · 12/05/2006 14:17

Unperturbed diminutive infant..
doesn't quite have the same ring to it!

hunkermunker · 12/05/2006 14:19

There was a big campaign to get it stopped - the NCT weren't happy with it, iirc.

Greensleeves · 12/05/2006 14:20

happy little sausage Grin

alexsmum · 12/05/2006 14:24

what occurred to me is that the 'routines' are probably easy to stick to if you are a nurse and have no emotional bond to the baby.if the baby cries-it may be easier to leave it because it's not your baby-you don't love it,you don't have all your instincts telling you to do otherwise, you don't have raging hormones.
once you figure all those things in to the equation however..........

GamelanCarrier · 12/05/2006 14:26

happy wee chap Grin

Greensleeves · 12/05/2006 14:27
