As you are all prob aware I follow the Gf routine and am also on her website and this was posted for us to see.

Dear Members,

In response to your emails regarding the statement in The Times Newspaper on 9th May 2006. We would like to confirm that neither Gina or her lawyers have put pressure on Mumsnet regarding the criticism that her methods receive on their forums. Gina was forced to seek legal
advice regarding other very serious issues with Mumsnet, and we will in the near future make a public statement as to her reasons for this. It would appear that some Mumsnet members are demanding a ban of the
Gina Ford name on the site. Gina herself would welcome this, as her forthcoming statement will confirm, she has for very valid reasons, no wish to be associated with the Mumsnet site.

Well, I wasn't going to post but now it's here and Gina Ford's site has said they don't mind it being reproduced, I will admit that I'd already seen this email. It was sent to me by the CLB website, of which I am not, and never have been, a member. So I have NO idea how they got one of my email addresses. Oh well!

ComeOVeneer · 11/05/2006 19:14

Funny that in their terms and conditions of use it clearly states that you must not store or download anything to another website without written permission and yet they so readily said you may with this piece of info. Wonder why???

Tinker · 11/05/2006 19:14

Marina [scratching my head like a thicko emoticon] - please point out what bit of it is clever.

Tinker · 11/05/2006 19:15

www - but they do know of you, surely???

zippitippitoes · 11/05/2006 19:15

is that so wwwwon't slagoffanyone? That's err disconcerting for you Shock

arfy · 11/05/2006 19:16

this is flipping ridiculous

'very serious issues'

whatever

I await the statement with bated breath

expatinscotland · 11/05/2006 19:16

Great! Let's ban all mention of her then and get on w/being the best parenting site in Britain.

Harpsichordcarrier · 11/05/2006 19:17

mummygow I could not disagree with you more
everyone does NOT want a ban
a ban would be a really handy way of stopping discussion about her methods
which, given that she styles herself as the Britain's number one childcare expert can't be good for free speech
why should it be possible to challenge - say the Baby Whisperer or Dr Sears on here, but not GF?
why should be in a special, protected position?

Tinker · 11/05/2006 19:17

It must be to do with her book and it involving "real mums" or something.

Tinker · 11/05/2006 19:18

Ah now harpsi has enlightened me as to why it is clever Smile

SaintGeorge · 11/05/2006 19:18

"We would like to confirm that neither Gina or her lawyers have put pressure on Mumsnet regarding the criticism that her methods receive on their forums. "

I think that might be the clever wording Marina is referring to.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2006 19:18

Isn't The Baby Whisperer deceased? Dr. Sears is still alive, but as he's of the lentil-weaving variety I'd think his methods would go over very well :).

Harpsichordcarrier · 11/05/2006 19:19

lol arfy
missed you btw, where have you beeeeeeeen?

Tinker · 11/05/2006 19:19

and you SG Smile

arfy · 11/05/2006 19:21

HC I have been at the parentals as they've returned from down under. so they needed full DD access and also my mum wanted a good wine-fuelled scrap with me on Tue night (and they have no broadband so no MN Shock). Logged on today and have obv missed lots of hoo-ha - v.confused!

mummygow · 11/05/2006 19:22

Harpsichordcarrier, I agree with you, we should be able to agree/disagree on everyones methods, opinions, ideas etc but as said before it isn't really her methods being disagreed with that is the problem, it is the rude vulger and downright nasty comments and names that she gets called and from the e-mail I gather this could be the problem, not that people disagree with her method!!

OP posts:
Mercy · 11/05/2006 19:23

What's the statement in The Times then?

arfy · 11/05/2006 19:24

if that is the problem I thought that had been sorted out and the offending threads removed? I'm confused as to why it's still rumbling on, and I refuse to believe that this the only place that personal comments have been made. There is obviously some deep rooted problem here and I can't help thinking it must run deeper than what we all know. Because from what we know, it seems most odd and OTT.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2006 19:25

Ban her. Ban all mention of her. She can sic her lawyers on some of the reveiwers of her books.

This is definitely not the only place personal comments have been made. There is another thread on another very famous site that is still accessible.

PinkKerPlink · 11/05/2006 19:27

is that ebay tinker

Tinker · 11/05/2006 19:28

No. Why is one being flogged?

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 11/05/2006 19:29

OMG- there was a review of her new book on Amazon the other day. The reviewer awarded one star; it's gone! Unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

AllieBongo · 11/05/2006 19:29

tracey hogg died of cancer a little while ago.
This GF thing does my head in... surely if you're in the public eye with a best selling book you learn to take a little flack whilst sitting in her million pound mansion
