Will this keep my conservatory cooler?

Someone has suggested that I put spray adhesive (the remountable stuff) on the ceiling and fix kitchen foil up.

Will this work?
Can anyone think of any reason why not?
Is there an easier way?

Is there anthing (on a roll like foil) that is shiney one side and white (beige/grey) on the other?

TIA

A fan?

CountessDracula · 10/05/2006 13:34

Oh I see what you mean

You can buy heat reflecting blinds can't you?

Katymac · 10/05/2006 13:35

I need a more DIY (eupherism for cheaper) option........Wink

It would look awful to put foil up though!

Why not buy some card and stick the foil to that, then attach the card to the panes (cut to size). Then at least you can take it down when if you want to and you won't be looking at foil, but card. You could even stick some fabric to the underside of the card to make it look better.

Currently I have linen look drapes (so hopefully you wouldn't see the foil very much)

but I'm not sure

Open the doors and put a fan in there?

CountessDracula · 10/05/2006 13:46

\link{http://www.pointnorth.co.uk/shop_product.asp?product_id=751\here you are} heat reflective fabric!

Can't believe those blinds are so pricy when the fabric is so cheap

Katymac · 10/05/2006 13:48

But it's NAVY....I don't think I can cope with a navy ceiling

so back it with another colour!

snorkle · 10/05/2006 14:35

we used white paint. Just very cheap water based childrens paint that you buy in squeezy bottles. In the Autumn you can wash it off.

oops

zippitippitoes · 10/05/2006 14:42

what about a sail effect with dustsheeets from homebase or similar?

Katymac · 10/05/2006 14:50

Snorkle is that inside or outside?

OP posts:
snorkle · 10/05/2006 15:59

Inside - if it was outside then the rain would wash it off. You can get proper stuff that is used for greenhouses - that might be outside I'm not sure.

sugarfree · 10/05/2006 16:09

Snorkle, when you say it washes off...exactly how much of a palavah is it?I'm very interested in this thread,my South facing conservatory is unusuable as soon as the sun comes out.

Twinkie1 · 10/05/2006 16:12

Coudl do the opposite and just heat it right up in there though - can you imagine sitting in a glass and foil box baking away - god can I come round and sit in it and lose some flab??? - you could charge us and save up for some blind things!!!!

Katymac · 10/05/2006 16:12

I wonder if emulsion would say on better - I have lots of windows so wouldn't need to remove it in the winter

I wonder if white paint would keep some of the heat in as well?

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 10/05/2006 16:13

but won't it look awful? it would be better to grow climbers across the roof

Katymac · 10/05/2006 16:13

Well I've had a quote for 9 and a half grand

Twinkie1 · 10/05/2006 16:14

Just open the doors and stick some foil up or buy a cheap air conditioning unit and stick that in there - you must be able to get them on ebay or somewhere that aren;t a fortune - I would think painting or doing a DIY job could look a bit rubbish (SORRY!!!)

sugarfree · 10/05/2006 16:15

for blinds???? My conservatory isn't worth that!

Katymac · 10/05/2006 16:16

I have an air conditioner already - but it costs a fortune to run - it also costs loads to heat in the winter.....I wish I had put a solid roof on itSad

I wonder how much a solid roof would cost to retro fit?

zippitippitoes · 10/05/2006 16:17

i got some wooden slatted blinds made to measure for about 45.00 each on the internet

what abpout the sail idea?

Twinkie1 · 10/05/2006 16:17

There are some blackout liners for sale on another thread - quick get in quick and snap them up they may help as most keep heat out too!!!
