Will this keep my conservatory cooler?

Someone has suggested that I put spray adhesive (the remountable stuff) on the ceiling and fix kitchen foil up.

Will this work?
Can anyone think of any reason why not?
Is there an easier way?

Is there anthing (on a roll like foil) that is shiney one side and white (beige/grey) on the other?

TIA

The roof is covered in linen look banners (I thought I said...sorry) it just isn't enough

Just put velcro on the roof and attach fabric

Katymac · 10/05/2006 16:19

But the fabric I have isn't working....it's beautifully fitted (even if I do say so myself)

It's on poles either end then looped up (in the other direction) with curtain wire

Katymac · 10/05/2006 16:22

I wanted to put wooden slats outside (like a split bamboo screen or a heather screen)

I could fix them easily enough at the top - but the wind could catch them at the bottem and I don't know how I could fix them

you can get the stuff that is used for warm roofs its like foil

Katymac · 10/05/2006 16:26

Not sure what you mean - do you know what it's called

so get the reflective fabric below, back it with your linen and velcro it to the window frames

et voila!

greenhouse shading paint worked wonders for us.

Katymac · 10/05/2006 16:41

How does that look?

Is it easy to apply?

Sorry I'm asking trice about the green house paint?

It washed off quite easily with a damp sponge, but was a bit of a palava as you had to keep rinsing the sponge in clean water to get the last smears off. Tried leaving it up one year, but condensation made it run and look awful. We have blinds now. I do have a friend who used white emulsion, but that's more permanent I think.

sugarfree · 10/05/2006 18:05

Cheers Snorkle

Katymac · 10/05/2006 19:24

Snorkle - How does the white emulsion look?

Oh I don't know I want a quick easy cheap solution

There's a man I know who says

Quick, Cheap, Easy (any 2 out of 3)....I think he's right

A chap on a green site thinks I can put in an insulated ceiling...I'm not sure how tho'

The white emulsion looked fine to me although my friend moved a while ago, so my memory could be playing tricks. As I recal she used several coats, and it looked like an emulsioned wall or ceiling not like a painted window (from the inside).

Katymac · 10/05/2006 22:21

Emulsion would be very easy - Too easy perhaps?

I wonder if it will stick to plastic?

OP posts:
Katymac · 10/05/2006 22:24

I wonder how much heat it would stop?

trice · 12/05/2006 16:22

you can get the paint on greenhouse shading from twowestsandelliot and it is specially formulated to go on polycarbonate. I wouldnt use ordinary paint as it may etch the plastic.

It looks kind of white and frosty and made quite a difference.

yumsymumsy · 12/05/2006 16:26

Oh dear me no!!!! White emulsion is for the working classes surely??????? Nowadays the trend is for wooden floors and surrounds, it keeps the heat in the winter and is deliciously cool in the summer!!!!!! Smile You could also invest in those gorgeous ceiling fans!!!!!!!! Oh I do love our beautiful conservatory!!!!! Smile

Hello to all the conservatory mums!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!

Katymac · 12/05/2006 20:18

I've seen this dotmatrix stuff from the same sit - I'm looking into that (it's a bit more expensive - but might do a better job)
