Beau (pronounced Bo)

I've loved this name for ages and to my utter suprise dh does too!

Just one thought though,
our surname also begins with B and has 2 syllables.

Will it sound silly?

Only if your surname is Baggins...

Nbg · 06/05/2006 20:28

Grin not Baggins.

Very very similar to a northern city though.

I didn't pick it up from Dukes of Hazzard just a name I've always been fond of.

No

BonyM · 06/05/2006 20:31

What about the famous Beau Brummell? Two syllables and sounds fine.

mousiemousie · 06/05/2006 20:32

Go with what you like, to hell with everyone else!

ItalianJob · 06/05/2006 20:32

Do Bo rather than Beau, so that DS won't be forever having his name misspelt.

kid · 06/05/2006 20:33

I like it.

BonyM · 06/05/2006 20:33

Isn't the spelling "Bo" more commonly used for girls though?

spacedonkey · 06/05/2006 20:34

but Bo stands for body odour :-S

SoupDragon · 06/05/2006 20:34

Beau Bridges.

ItalianJob · 06/05/2006 20:36

Ah good point, forgot about Bo Derrick. Ok maybe scrub the "Bo" suggestion then!

Nbg · 06/05/2006 20:39

lol

We'd skip a middle name too. I think it would be too much.

Am pleased most of you like it.

Errrr...... yeah, I think I like it. I know a little boy called Bo, his parents are nigerian (I think) so wasn't sure if it was short for something.

I think I like it but more as a nickname / petname. Not sure I'd want the name Beau / Bo for myself for the rest of my life, not sure, jurys still out for me on this one I think.

If you like it though and so does DH, go for it. You have some time yet, live with it a bit, then when he or she is born and it still feels right, it's the one.

Nbg · 06/05/2006 20:45

I have to say I admired you for holding out on your dd's name TC Smile

Silly really, like you said there is plenty of time to decide. He won't have to have a name as soon as he's born I guess.

Personally, i'm not sure on it, sorry don't mean to offend. It reminds me of Ali G, all he said was BO selectus.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/05/2006 20:49

I like the name Beau. I know one Beau, locally, he's English, and it's certainly "Beau", not "Bo".

There's also Beau Brummel, who was a fashion designer in the 30s or something.

Thomcat · 06/05/2006 20:50

Oh nbg, if you only knew the pressure! Still doesn't feel the most natural thing to call her, but it is the name for her, there was no other, it was our first choice, we lived with it, nothing else worked, so .....

I've been saying Beau to myself for a while and i like it more now which is why i came back.

FrannyandZooey · 06/05/2006 20:51

I am honestly not sure either. Hope this helps and you did really truly want our uncensored opinions!

fattiemumma · 06/05/2006 20:56

love it for a girl, not so sure for a son though.

plus as son grows up he will invariably be nicknamed bobo....as in body odour.... by horrid school children

gegs73 · 06/05/2006 21:12

Hope your not offended but sounds abit too much like a girls name for my liking

I know two men at work named Beau. One has a surname beginning B with 2 syllables. Sorry to say that in this environment both, but especially the latter, does get a bit of ribbing from the other men.

Frenchgirl · 06/05/2006 21:20

oh no please, not Beau........
