Shameless request for sympathy

Just need a bit of sympathy (its not very forthcoming from husband)- dd was ill all last week (temp >39degrees, and severe ear infection - so she was very distressed, not sleeping and super clingy), and I'm ill with sinusitus this week (can only mouth breathe and have some shocking sinus headaches to contend with). I know I should 'get a life' and its all minor stuff really, but even if you don't especially mean it please say something heart warming and cheery to get me through the day!

Poor you HMC. Sinus pain is horrible, isn't it? It feels like someone is hitting you over the head with a hammer!!
I know just how you feel, we moved house recently, and we all had the flu. My DS (21mths) had it the worst, and i had to pack boxes and move furniture with him sat on my hip he was so clingy.
All i can say is you will all be better soon. Take carexxxx

Sonnet · 21/01/2004 11:38

Lots form me....

I get sysisitus (SP...)it is so horrid!

Treat yourself to a long bath soak tonight, candles the works....you deserve it...

Hope DD is better now?

Blu · 21/01/2004 12:02

OMG! Ear infection in child is reason enough to need a two week holiday in the sun, never mind sinus trouble on top. You poor things. I DO hope it all gets better soon, have a good cry for a bit, and then do what Twinkie suggests and have some cake.

oh you poor thing. I suffer with my sinuses and I agree with Sonnet, it is horrid. I wish you better soon.
Treat yourself to some daytime telly and a hot chocolate.
You have all my sympathy and a big hug (((x)))

motherinferior · 21/01/2004 12:06

Boots decongestant tablets - not the sinusitis ones, they're just caffeine and similar IIRC - should clear the sinusitis, you poor poor love. Longer term, acupuncture has cleared my LIFETIME of horrible sinuses. I do so sympathise. Please get some medication for it because it is so horrible.

And then have a CAKE.

aloha · 21/01/2004 12:12

Drink lots and lots of water, makes the mucus less solid (lovely!). I used to suffer untold agonies with this in my teens - like nails driven into the skull so total sympathy. Go to Gp if it doesn't get better soon, mine always used to turn into sinus infections and antibiotics got rid quick smart.

Hulababy · 21/01/2004 12:22

mnc - I sypathise totally as I was off work last week with sinusitus. It was really painfula nd I could hardly move my head without is hurting. I have never had it before and it suprised me how bad I felt. Don't put yourself down about coping with it though - it is a horrid infection that can cause your hours of main and distress. My solutions were:

  • Doctors - get yourself antibiotics; it is an infection that does respond well to them - nd make sure they are relatively string dose t get rid of it quick
  • Paracetamol/Nurefen mix - alternate to reduce swelling behind eyes, head, reduce pain a bit and bring down temperature
  • Olbas Oil steaming - have a nice warm bath with Olbas in a bowl in same room for temporary relief
  • Try decongestant like sudafed - didn't have any effect for me though
  • REST - lots of it

If the sinuses make you feel isck and/or dizzy (often does once the infection takes hold) - do NOT drive.

My doctor signed me off work for a week. He says it often lasts longer and asked me to go back for aa medical note for longer if it did. Fortunately once taking the ab it cleared up in about 3 or 4 days.

Hulababy · 21/01/2004 12:29

Meant hmc - not mnc; sorry.

Enid · 21/01/2004 12:42

I got my first attack of sinusitis the day before my wedding - nice! Pencillin and Boots decongestant tablets worked wonders. Lots of hot drinks made me feel better. love E x

ThomCat · 21/01/2004 12:46

You poor, poor thing - tons of sympathy, xxx

lydialemon · 21/01/2004 12:49

It might just be me, but if I'm all blocked up I find having sex clears it up for a bit. I don't know why and it's probably the last thing on your mind, but it does work

gingernut · 21/01/2004 13:12

Lots of sympathy - and I do mean it!

Sinusitis - I get it a lot and my doctor recommended taking a hot shower before bed to losen the mucus. I always feel so c**p that taking a shower when all I want to do is to collapse into bed doesn't seem at all appealing but it honestly does work for me.

I also use plain sudafed (pseudoephedrine hydrochloride), and ibuprofen for the pain (which I find more effective than paracetamol, presumably because the pain is caused by inflammation).

If it continues, definitely press your doctor for some antibiotics.

Hope you are better soon.

Carla · 21/01/2004 13:18

Swap the hot chocolate for a hot toddy. Poor you!

Enid · 21/01/2004 13:23

I think I have said this on another thread, but a good friend who is an alternative medicine practitioner recommends snorting warm salty water to wash out your sinuses...er...I must admit I havent tried it, it doesn't sound very nice, but she says it works like a miracle...

Hulababy · 21/01/2004 13:24

lydialemon - how brave!; the thought of moving would have been enough to put me off

handlemecarefully · 21/01/2004 14:13

Awww thanks everybody for the support - I knew it would make me feel better (pyschologically if not physically!)
