Crushingly tedious thread I'm afraid......

I usually do my weekly shopping at Sainsbury's because I live near one. I do buy some of their Basics stuff, because it's dirt cheap and I am a meanie. However some things (eg bread) I won't compromise on. I've got a rough shopping list for this evening (usual stuff like cheese, ham, pitta breads, apple juice etc etc) but I'm considering trying Lidl instead of Sainsburys. Will they have all the usual stuff, or will I end up having to go to Sainsburys anyway? And how do their prices compare?

I told you it was tedious Grin

That's a tough one, GS, b/c some basic stuff is lacking in Lidl. Stuff like tea bags, for ex.

But give it a bash and see how you get on.

They've got great wines!

Love tedious threads. Lidl sell all teh stuff on your rough shopping list. Cheaper than Sains and just as good. But, you can't get everything there. Go anyway, you know you want to.

My friend raves about Lidl and I went to have a look but didn't manage to buy anything because it all looks quite unappealing. My friend assures me that it's all very good quality though, and the certainly had the basics but none of the brand names that I'm used to (all German manufacturers I think).

They do't sell tea bags? Oh maybe this isn't such a good idea then.

Do they sell fresh fruit and veg?

I did this before Christmas. I found some things were great and some things they didn;t have or were not suitable for what I needed. The range / choice is pretty limited. But teh quality is usually fine & it's so darn cheap in comparison.

I found alternating one week Lidl, one week tesco, worked well.

Yes, lots a fruit and veg

There are some otehr threads around Greensleeves dating from end of last year which list what's good to buy and what's not. Will look.
