Householdy question - Handspun wool blanket

I'm guessing I have to wash the thing by hand, and even a very gentle machine wash will make it poorly?

Lovely blanket, wonderful guesture, but the thing is huge and weighs a ton wet - so handwashing is a nightmare.

Just clutching at straws really Grin

Someone knows! I know you do... you all know stuff like this!

Is it knitted or woven FS?

Hmm I don't know - I have a handspun wool blanket and DH washed it in a normal wash (idiot) and it survived - but not sure I'd recommend it!
don't most washing machines have a delicate cycle that's practically a handwash - I always use that as I've no patience for handwashing!

See - knew you knew things! It didn't even occur to me to put that! Knitted :)

oh this one is woven BTW

Marina · 04/05/2006 15:02

Hm. I'd have machine-washed a woven one but think you have no alternative but to handwash the knitted one :(

Do you have a flat airer you can spread it on?
Or maybe dry in the garden on a large towel provided it isn't a fader colour like red...

Flamesparrow · 04/05/2006 15:15

Oh poo. Knew you were going to say that! Grin

I'll attack it the next sunny morning we have, and put it out to dry. (No bright colours, so not an issue).

Oooh, maybe I should accidentally leave it at my mums house, and see if it comes back clean like DD's socks do? Grin

Provided she doesn't boil wash it to remove "those nasty understains" like mine would Shock She used to boil EVERYTHING when I was little, dsis and I were lucky to escape a turn in the copper ourselves

Perfect weather. Sunshine, a light breeze - that blanket is going to smell and look good!
