You know, like you do on a Thursday morning. Had just come out of a shoe shop with Troutpout (yes, I had bought shoes..sshhhh) and found ourselves face to face with a crowbar wielding guy in a black balaclava who had just smashed in the door of the jeweller's, about two shops down. Accomplice was still inside, getaway car was there, engine running and doors open. I just stood there looking at him - luckily Troutpout had the presence of mind to shove me back in the shoe shop and close the door behind us. When I told the girl what was happening she thought I was joking.

We waited in the shoe shop til we saw people heading in the direction of the jeweller's again - then came out: they had raced off in the car along a pedestrianised shopping street, and presumably slalomed round the bollards at the end.

Police took 10 minutes to arrive...the guy in the jeweller's was talking into a phone and looking extremely shaky.

What is the world coming to? 11am on a sunny Thursday morning...

omg, all this happened in Maccy?

GDG · 04/05/2006 12:27

OMG, in Macc?!?!?!?!!?

marthamoo · 04/05/2006 12:27

Yup - and as I said to the girl in the shoe shop "but nothing ever happens in Macclesfield."

Mind you, same thing happened in Wilmslow not long ago didn't it?

marthamoo · 04/05/2006 12:28

Just can't quite believe it - broad daylight, and loads of people around...

GDG · 04/05/2006 12:29

which shoes you get moo? Grin

marthamoo · 04/05/2006 12:31

PMSL, GDG - when we were all standing outside the shop gaping at the jewelller's and going "OMG! OMG!" another woman who was in there suddenly realised she was still clutching a shoe and said "er...can I try the other one of these on please?" Grin

I got a pair of DM mules - they are very comfy.

Golly how lucky that no one was hurt... Hope you're ok and not too shaken up
Yrs ago I was a bank teller on business banking duty at the cashiers row.
Two guys with guns ran in, I actually saw them before they came in and got down behind my counter/locked it and hid. looked like I was out to lunch was what I hoped, they raided the business till next to mine. shot up through the roof (into the canteen above) when one teller refused to access her cash.
Got away with several hundred k... (this was in NZ)
Never caught, escaped on bicyles - it was truly terrifying
I and several others quit the next day. I still get jittery now.

marthamoo · 04/05/2006 12:32

I was glad I didn't have the kids with me - I don't need them to know stuff like that happens.

That's terrifying, piffle. When I worked in the library - actually, when I was very pregnant with ds1, I was on a late one night, on my own behind the counter, and a guy with a gun walked in. He wasn't waving it around or anything - didn't even look at me - just walked very calmly and quietly round the library, clearly looking for someone. Luckily, they weren't there and he left. I crouched down behind the counter 'til he'd gone.

That's when I knew I wasn't going back after I had the baby.

And dh's response (he just came home for lunch)?

"What were you doing in the shoe shop?"

Marina · 04/05/2006 13:37

Men.
I know how scary these situations can be, Moo - witnessed aftermath of horrible racist assault when heavily pregnant with dd and had ds with me. Do take it easy today, seriously, and don't be at all surprised if it all catches up with you later :(
Best lay in chocolate supplies now.

giraffeski · 04/05/2006 13:38

Shock Mind you, there are some dodgy types around Macc- some weird man broke into our ward at Macc hospital to steal the biscuits a few months back!

marthamoo · 04/05/2006 13:38

I was very shaky before but I've calmed down a bit now. Just want to tell people (not people who ask me what I was doing in a shoe shop, grrr)..hence MN!

OP posts:
marthamoo · 04/05/2006 13:39

Do you work at Macc hospital, giraffeski? You might know dh.

oliveoil · 04/05/2006 13:40

now you wouldn't get this in Oldham

(shoes you would want to buy that is)

Nbg · 04/05/2006 13:41
Shock
marthamoo · 04/05/2006 13:43

You would get it in Oldham! My auntie lives in Oldham and was in an armed supermarket robbery - with her ds - very terrifying.

You woudln't have bought these shoes, olive - they were those DM mules I linked to. Mind you, they do Rocket Dog and shoes with bling too.

OP posts:
cod · 04/05/2006 13:45

have oyu riung the police?

cod · 04/05/2006 13:46

you may be a witness

Marina · 04/05/2006 13:46

I was thinking the same cod, Moo, you could help convict these robbers...

oliveoil · 04/05/2006 13:46

My bling shoes will be there when I get in (claps hands excitedly).

I think you need to lay on the need for TLC for this evening with your dh and make him your slave for the evening.

oliveoil · 04/05/2006 13:47

well I would be one of the wise monkeys in this instance, sorry, no way would I want someone terrorising my family if I was a witness in court.

Rhubarb · 04/05/2006 13:48

No doubt you will be a witness, have you given a statement?

Oldham is a lovely friendly little village! I don't know why you all have it in for Oldham, really I don't!
