buying new VS second hand

Hi there,
I'm just curious to hear your thoughts on this topic. Myself and a couple of other friends with young children were discussing our feelings on buying second hand items, opposed to brand new. I am happy to purchase nearly new items such as clothing for my 6 month old daughter, but a friend of mine was highly against the idea. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this :)

Nothing wrong with second hand. We have a mix of both. Saved us money so that on the things we do buy brand new, we can get the ones we want.

90% of things for dd are second hand. I am very pro second hand, don't see the problem, most of it is like new

I prefer second hand item, it is environmental-friendly as well as economic. I wound change most of my used items into other new items, this program is meaningful. Go for it, it is a good idea.
